Summer has been full steam ahead and we wouldn't have it any other way! The Buckeye Recreation Center has been full every day and that's what we love to see. Our summer camp has been incredibly busy with new and exciting field trips, guest speakers, and adventurous days. We are excited to announce that we now have OUTDOOR Pickleball Courts. With the resurfacing of our tennis courts we had 4 additional Pickleball courts marked as well. You will also be seeing new trails on the Emerald Outback opening in the next several weeks, updates to Upper Pond Bridges and a new entrance into Lower Pond Creek. Be sure to keep your eyes out for the July Outdoor Programs. The summer has only just begun!
Stream Ecology will unfortunately be cancelled on July 18th. Sorry for the inconvenience.
What we have been up to OUTSIDE
Outdoor Recreaiton
Lower Pond Creek entrance bridge is OPEN! Our outdoor recreation crew has built a new bridge for the entrance of LPC to make it more accessible. The dog park received a face lift with new staining on all features. If you haven't made it up to the EMO trail - Go check it out. We have just cleaned up the trails and started on a new trail that will give mountain bikers a great thrill.

Event Recap
Cool 5 and Benefit Dinner
We had a crazy fun time at our 11th annual "A Cool 5 Race". I say crazy because our racers ran up Beech Mountain! With the long range mountain views, cool summer temperatures, "A Cool 5" is a run that you just won't get off the mountain, it is extremely "Cool". We started the morning in the mid 50's! Thanks to all who participated!
We had over 50 racers for the first Sparkler 5K. We are more than thrilled with our turn out. Even though it was really warm for Beech Mtn. the temperatures stayed in the 70's for an enjoyable 3 mile race.
4th of July Family Fun
After joining us for the Sparkler 5K many people walked over to the 4th of July Carnival. We had FREE food, a shirt tie-dying and face-painting station along with games, inflatables and music. A family fun experience had by all. Thank you to the Beech Mountain Fire and Police Department for their help and the Brick Oven for their Pizza donations!
Where does event money and donations go to?
Participating in our events does more than give you a runner's' high, it is giving back the the Beech Mountain Community. This year the money collected will go towards our a new park on Beech called The Shane Outpost Park. The park will see three phases of construction and is a big undertaking. We will not be able to reach our goal without your help. This park will have several new amenities to offer Beech Mountain and its many residents and visitors. There will be natural play areas, picnic shelters, access to new hiking trails, an amphitheater and stage, a water play feature and tent camp sites! We are extremely excited about the project and future endeavors the town has for its recreation.
Register your child for the best summer of their life online HERE. Camp Buckeye is for ages 5 - 12. We have new camp days thanks to our new camp director, Marisa Sedlak. This year campers will zip-line, go to a trampoline park, learn how to build fires, hike trails, learn about ecosystems and MUCH MORE! This camp is the best outdoor experience for your child.
Check out our summer schedule. Your child can sign up for the day or the week. We want to be flexible so you can enjoy your summer as a family as well. Any questions please call 828.387.3003 or email
