Fostoria Area Visitor's Bureau
The Fostoria Area Visitors Bureau has been working to expand the barn quilt trail locally and to lend support to this concept, they commissioned “ The Barn Quilts on Main ” as a community barn quilt display on Main Street. There are 32 different barn quilt designs in this permanent display, many of which were chosen to show a unique aspect of Fostoria’s history, including a train depot, flowers, glass vases and a schoolhouse. Michele Cochran, Community Development/Tourism Director, contacted Fostoria residents Bev and Dave Lang to discuss her idea for the project. The Langs agreed to coordinate a community “quilting bee” to create the artwork which was installed on the concrete walls of the “Park and Shop lot” and along Main Street in the center of downtown Fostoria. In addition to Bev and Dave Lang, painters of “The Barn Quilts on Main” included: Linda Crawford, Jean Endicott, Barb Gabriel, Steve & Peggy Gebauer, Lynn Hipsher, Wendy Krupp, Rick and Marjory Navarro, Melissa Neuman, Pat Parks, Sharon Reinhard, Ellie Scifers, and Sue Van Sant.
The Fostoria Area Visitors Bureau has been working to bring “new and different” to Fostoria with several projects that are geared toward improving the community image and quality of life, while giving visitors “larger and bolder” artwork to view while traveling through our community.
“The Barn Quilts on Main” help to expand the ever-growing presence of artwork in our downtown corridor. This is the second year that Fostoria is a host community for a year-long Midwest Sculpture Initiative display, joining several sculptures that are here permanently. Three new murals have been painted in Fostoria over each of the last three years, and this year, the Fostoria Tree & Beautification Committee unveiled painted floral banners to hang along Main Street.
