Tips and Tricks for Organizer

So many of you have already submitted your organizer and tax documents. Thank you! For those that are still working on it, here are a few things to keep in mind as you work through the organizer.

  1. If you are filing a joint return, the taxpayer needs to go into the organizer first and sign the engagement letter. At that point the spouse can go in and sign the letter and move onto the custom questions.
  2. The only time hitting finish closes the entire organizer is in the upload documents tab. Prior to that, hitting finish won't lock you out of the whole organizer. It will only close that particular section. Once you are done, please do hit finish in the upload section. If you don't get a pop up asking you to confirm you are completed, you haven't hit the correct finish.
  3. Feel free to drop your documents off at the office if you don't have the ability to upload them to the organizer. Just finish the questions and hit finish on them. Once we get your documents, we will go in and turn off the organizer so that you will not get reminder emails.
  4. Don't upload your childrens documents to your organizer. If they did not receive their own organizer, please contact Kim and she will help you determine the best way to get us those documents.

Completing the organizer is a vital part of the tax return process and it helps the preparers to get you the most thorough and correct tax return. Not completing the organizer is not an option, so please take a few minutes and complete the organizer.

Don't forget your Financial Advisor

During tax time, don't forget about your financial advisor! While you are reviewing your tax return, you can send a copy to your financial advisor right from SafeSend. In the upper righthand corner of the screen within your tax return, you should see a forward button. All you need is your financial advisor's email address. You determine what pages they need, enter the email address, and SafeSend will send them a secure copy of your tax return.

What does your pay stub say?

When was the last time you looked at your pay stub? We have heard from some of our clients that they didn't realize that they didn't have federal income taxes taken out, or they thought there wasn't enough social security. It is important to occasionally check your pay stub to make sure that there wasn't an error somewhere that could accumulate into a huge error at the end of the year. Not sure if your paystub is correct, contact your payroll or HR department and find out.

SafeSend Client Portal

SafeSend has introduced a new client portal and we want to make sure that you know how to use it to be able to take advantage of this new feature.

First, you need to know that the portal is not compatible with tablets or cell phones at this time. If it is your first time opening the portal, you will need to sign up, even if you have shared documents or have done other things in SafeSend, everyone will need to sign up the first time getting into the portal. Otherwise it will tell you that you have an unrecognized email address. See below for the steps to sign-up.

The portal is a place that you will be able to see all of your tax returns, tax payments, and shared documents since we began using SafeSend in 2022.
