As we welcome May, I find myself reflecting on what an extraordinary year this has been for the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce. Celebrating our 25th anniversary has given us a powerful lens through which to see just how far we’ve come — and how much possibility lies ahead. This milestone is a testament not only to the resilience and creativity of our LGBTQ+ business community, but also to the dedicated leadership of our Board of Directors and the Board of the Rainbow Chamber Foundation. Their commitment, vision, and countless hours of service have shaped the strong, vibrant organization we are today.
Over the past year, I’ve watched our members deepen their connections, strengthen their businesses, and show up for one another in ways that truly embody the spirit of this Chamber. It has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life to serve as your president, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together. As we move into the next chapter, I’m excited to continue supporting the Chamber’s growth in new and meaningful ways. You’ll be seeing even more of me as we build on this momentum.
This month also brings one of our most joyful community traditions: BIG DAY OF GIVING Drag Queen Bingo on May 7. The event is officially sold out, and we’re thrilled by the enthusiasm. Even if you won’t be in the room, there are still impactful ways to support the Chamber on this important community giving day. You can create and share a personal fundraising page on your social media or throughout your network — a simple action that helps amplify our mission during our 25th year.
Later this month, on May 22, we honor Harvey Milk Day, a moment to reflect on the courage and conviction that continue to inspire our movement. His legacy calls us to lead with authenticity, advocate boldly, and uplift one another — values that remain at the heart of our Chamber.
And of course, Pride Month is right around the corner. Our committees are already hard at work preparing for a season of celebration, visibility, and economic opportunity for our members. I encourage you to get involved early, whether through events, sponsorships, volunteering, or simply showing up to support our community.
Looking a bit further ahead, we’re thrilled to announce our first-ever Dashin’ Down the Delta Fun Run on August 16 at Scott’s Seafood on the River. Sponsorship opportunities are now available, and registration is officially open. This new tradition blends wellness, community, and celebration — and we can’t wait to see our members and partners come together for a beautiful day along the river.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the Chamber and for the trust you’ve placed in me this past year. I’m grateful for the journey we’ve shared and energized for the work still ahead. Here’s to a vibrant May and a powerful start to Pride season.
Live out loud,
Sara Hanson

Big Day of Giving Is Here — And the Need Is Real
Right now, LGBTQ+ and allied students in our region are facing real barriers to higher education—rising tuition, housing instability, and limited access to financial support systems. For many, the difference between continuing their education or putting their dreams on hold comes down to funding.
That’s where we come in—and where you come in.
Through the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber Foundation, we provide direct financial support to students who are working toward a better future. These aren’t abstract impacts these are real students, real goals, and real outcomes.
Here’s what your support makes possible:
Scholarships that help cover tuition, books, and essential expenses
Reduced financial stress so students can focus on their education
Greater access to career pathways and long-term economic stability
A stronger, more inclusive workforce right here in our community
Our goal: $50,000.
Every dollar moves us closer. Every gift directly supports a student who is counting on opportunities like this to move forward. This is more than a fundraiser—it’s an investment in equity, access, and the future of our community.
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to give—this is it.
And if you’re unable to give right now, you can still help:
Share our fundraiser with your network
Encourage others to get involved
Be a voice for students who deserve the chance to succeed
Together, we can meet this moment—and exceed it.
