YOU ARE INVITED TO THE CAMPAIGN CELEBRATION!

We are delighted to invite you to a campaign celebration in honour of the Ignite the Future campaign and the incredible community of donors who made it possible. Together, you helped ignite potential, transform lives, and strengthen our community in ways that will be felt for generations.

Thanks to your generosity, more children and youth in our region will have the chance to belong, build confidence, and experience the joy of movement at the Fredericton YMCA. We are excited to gather, share stories, and celebrate what we accomplished together.

And while we will save the final campaign total for the event itself, we can promise it is a moment worth celebrating.

Please join us for light refreshments, conversation, and a chance to reflect on the impact you have helped create.

FEBRUARY 4 IS NATIONAL GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

We are so fortunate at the YMCA of Fredericton to have such a talented group of instructors, coaches and leaders. For the National Girls & Women's in Sports Day, we wish to highlight a few of our incredible youth program instructors.

Jodina is a gymnastics coach at the Y. She began gymnastics at age three, and sports have shaped her life ever since. She trained competitively in gymnastics for nearly nine years before moving into taekwondo, earning a first degree black belt, and later playing rugby with Rugby NB. Experiencing sports that range from artistry to full contact competition built her confidence and showed her the power of supportive teammates and coaches. She brings this mindset into her coaching by empowering girls in gymnastics, helping them feel confident, capable, and proud of their sport; now and in the future, no matter what path they choose.

My name is Olivia and I’m the youth programs supervisor for multi sports. I’ve been involved in sports since I was young, having my start at around 6 at the YMCA. I was in love with basketball and started to play competitively at around 11. During middle school I would officiate basketball games for kids and became a YMCA volunteer. During high school I started to coach basketball at the YMCA and after high school I coached a semi competitive league. Sports have been, and are, a very important part of my life. I love coaching and seeing the skills of my students develop. It makes me proud when I see a student master a skill that they’ve been working on, or find a sport that really interests them. I love the YMCA because it provides opportunities for students to really find what they love.

2026 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

On Wednesday, February 11, we join UNESCO for a global event to celebrate women in science as we shape a future where science, technology, engineering and mathematics advance along with gender equality.

This winter, the YMCA of Fredericton has collaborated with Science East to offer a one-of-a-kind Kinder club for our youngest members. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, our group of budding scientists meet with Alexis Savoie and Michelle Roy-Brock from Science East.

Both Alexis and Michelle are excellent representatives of women working in the field of science.

They are enthused by the Science East and YMCA of Fredericton collaboration. Every session is designed to spark curiosity, nurture learning and inspire a lifelong love for discovery. They are seeing that the parents and caregivers who support the program appreciate the quality of the activities, experiments and games of the Kinder Club. The families also appreciate the added value to their child’s Y membership. The Kinder Club is one of many programs in which the child can enroll. It can complement a full slate of activities that can include a swimming lesson, multisport, ballet or gymnastics! Not to mention drop in access to family swims and the indoor play structure.

We are all very grateful to be a part of a team that is inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, inventors and science enthusiasts.

This just in! The Monthly Challenge is the Tabata Squat Challenge!

In a time frame of 4 minutes, we want you to do 8 rounds of 20 squats with 10 seconds of rest in between. Your LOWEST reps is your SCORE but the HIGHEST number reps is your WIN.

Sound confusing? Talk to a personal trainer in the Wellness Centre!

2026 is off to a great start! We're so happy to announce the winners of our past TWO fitness challenges.

In December, MIKE MACPHERSON won the Handbike challenge. Mike managed to complete 2.66 miles on the SciFit Handbike in 15 minutes! Way to go Mike, we've got to hand it to you!

ALISHA GOODINE was the winner of the Tree Pose challenge in January. Alisha managed to balance on one foot in tree pose for a whopping 10 minutes. Rumour has it that she could have gone all day but was starting to get bored, and that's why she had to leaf when she did!

We hope to see a great number of participants challenge the tabata squat this February!
