Exercise – As a Snack???

General health guidelines recommend a certain amount of weekly physical activity, but new research is revealing the importance of maintaining activity throughout the day. Prolonged sitting can lead to health issues, even for regular exercisers. The solution – exercise snacks. You may move around all day at work, but what about when you get home? Do you become glued to the couch for the rest of the evening?

This health tip shares what exercise snacks are and some ideas on how to break up sitting or lack of movement for extended periods of time.

YOUR GOOD MENTAL HEALTH SPACE

The most important day of a person’s education is the first day of school, not graduation.” Unknown

HOW Can You Help Your Child Prep for School?

Mental health conditions can change the way a child learns, behaves, and handles their emotions. In other words, they can have a drastic impact not only on the child’s mental and emotional development, but on their quality of life.

Returning to school, whether after a summer break or after an extended period of remote learning, can be stressful.

The following tips can help ease the transition back into the classroom:

1.  Know that anxiety is completely normal.

2.  Make self-care a priority for everyone.

3.  Give kids plenty of time to adjust.

4.  Be ready to adjust.

5.  Address fears and concerns honestly.

6.  Provide access to support services.

7.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Use Your Resources

You’ve got a network of folks who care about you; and by taking the time to seek them, fostering those healthy relationships and trusting yourself to make a mistake here and there, you can build an ecosystem that’s meaningful and supportive.

Remember:

Give children an opportunity to express their fears and anxiety without judgment. It's also important not to immediately jump into solution mode – try to listen more and talk less. Talk to your children about what they're struggling with and start a conversation about what you can do together to work through them.
