During the week of April 19 - 25, we celebrate the incredible individuals that devote their time and energy to making the YMCA of Fredericton a welcoming and dynamic gathering space for our community.
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2026 is Ignite Volunteerism, a theme that resonates deeply with the YMCA of Fredericton and our community. When we ignite volunteerism, we strengthen our collective impact. Volunteers share with us their precious resources of time, empathy, creativity and skill. In turn, our volunteers strengthen inclusivity and the wellbeing of our community.
At the YMCA of Fredericton, there are many different kinds of opportunities for volunteering. For instance, our board of directors is made up entirely of volunteers who have proven track records as leaders in the Fredericton community. These talented volunteers have the opportunity to shape the vision of the YMCA and lead it into the future. For volunteers that wish to make a difference in the lives of young people in our community, opportunity abounds through our Power Up Program and coaching opportunities in our youth programs. There is also opportunity for volunteers whose capabilities lie in empathy, leadership and guidance by working with single parent families through our Family Friend Program. Volunteers also help our swimming programs by offering time and resources as volunteer lifeguards and volunteer swim instructors. These opportunities strengthen the leadership qualities in these individuals and open the doors for employment.
Of course, the YMCA also relies on general volunteers to help get events off the ground! We rely on helpful volunteers to serve breakfast at our Community Breakfast Fundraiser, to provide assistance at our Healthy Kids Day, and we love to honour special volunteers in our community once a year with the YMCA Peace Medallion during YMCA Peace Week.
