Time, Treasure & Talents
Time, Talent, and Treasure refers to the three valuable resources individuals can give to a cause, organization, or their own life: time is the time you spend, talent is the skills and abilities you have, and treasure is your financial resources and material assets. This year, we are going to use this framework as we look at the 2026 Stewardship Campaign which begins with the 2026 Stewardship Campaign letters that we have sent to individuals and households this week. We are encouraging parishioners to giving in multiple forms for 2026 to be what we desire it to be at St. Cuthbert’s. We at St. Cuthbert’s consider each of these three forms as a valuable and essential contribution as informed by our values of community, connection, communication, continuity, and compassion.
Looking at each separately, this is what we see:
Time
-
Meaning: The hours and minutes one dedicates to an activity or cause.
-
Examples: Volunteering at any one of the 65 listed ministry areas that are on the Pledge Form that was sent to you this week, is with the Altar Guild, Server & Crucifer, Sidesperson, Audio Visual team, Sunday Greeter, Sunday Reader, Singing in the Choirs, or serving on the Building & Grounds Team, or as Youth Advisor, to mention just but a few.
-
Significance: It is a limited and precious resource that cannot be recovered once spent.
Talent
-
Meaning: One’s unique skills, abilities, and professional expertise.
-
Examples: A landscaping technician offering to take care of St. Cuthbert’s grounds, an accountant managing St. Cuthbert's books, an AV technician rendering professional services that allows St. Cuthbert’s to receive top notch curated sound in the sanctuary, and a cook creating gourmet meals every time St. Cuthbert’s parishioners meet for a meal, a teacher by profession utilizing their skill to teach children at Sunday School, and a seasoned Musician offering their musical skills to help create holistic music at worship in the sanctuary.
-
Significance: It is a way for one to contribute expertise that might be difficult for St. Cuthbert to acquire otherwise.
Treasure
-
Meaning: Financial gifts, monetary donations, or other assets like real estate or bequests.
-
Examples: Donating cash, a piece of property, or a valuable item to St. Cuthbert’s.
-
Significance: It provides the tangible resources needed for St. Cuthbert’s to operate daily and fulfill its God-given mission in North Delta, Surrey and beyond.
How we are expecting all this to work together for our 2026 Stewardship Drive:
-
Balancing the three: A healthy and effective way to give involves contributing all three. A balance ensures that St. Cuthbert’s benefits from a wide range of support.
-
Interdependence: Time without Talent can be inefficient, talent without treasure might miss resource opportunities, and treasure without time can lead to a lack of personal connection and understanding of the mission.
-
Stewardship: This framework that we are using here is a concept of stewardship (the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care)—that’s what we are instituting as we fill in and return our 2026 pledge forms, we are declaring that these are resources (time, treasure, and talents) that God entrusted to us, and we are using wisely to ensure that God’s work continues in God’s house at St. Cuthbert’s in 2026.
