THANK YOU FREDERICTON NORTH ROTARY CLUB | | |
When Chris Darrah, the treasurer of Fredericton North Rotary Club read the June issue of the YMCA of Fredericton newsletter, she knew that her organization could help out with the Gift of Camp Snack Drive. She contacted Elizabeth Kearns, Director of Development and offered a donation on behalf of Fredericton North Rotary Club of $1000 to go towards the snack drive.
The YMCA of Fredericton is so appreciative of this generous donation that will ensure that all campers feel a sense of belonging while they play and make friends at a YMCA of Fredericton Day Camp.
Thank you, Fredericton North Rotary Club! You are doing more than filling a belly. You're helping fuel potential and helping to make summer even brighter for kids in our community.
And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has stepped up to donate a snack or has made a financial contribution to this worthwhile cause.
We are still accepting Gift of Camp Snack donations. If you wish to donate, you can
- Drop off non-perishable snacks to the lobby of 570 York Street
- Click on the donate button below to make a financial contribution. Please indicate that you wish for your donation to go towards "Gift of Camp".

Meet Oliver Owen,
Manager of Membership Services
The Manager of Membership Services leads our team of Membership Specialists and is often one of the first friendly faces that members, visitors, and community members encounter when they walk through our doors. This role requires someone who works well with others, leads with fairness and integrity, and brings a positive attitude to every
| | |
interaction. A sunny disposition and a good sense of humour certainly help! We are excited to introduce Oliver Owen, YMCA Fredericton's Manager of Membership Services.
Hello! My name is Oliver; I am the Manager of Membership Services, at YMCA Fredericton.
I was born in Fredericton, but my family is from Australia. My favourite place to visit there is the Taronga Zoo, in Sydney. I am a huge animal person, and it is one of the best rated Zoo's in the southern hemisphere!
My passions include animal care and rehabilitation, and art. I have a degree in Graphic Design, so I am very excited to work on mini projects that help out my Welcome Desk team and members alike, feel more comfortable in our space. Some projects that I am already working on include: a comprehensive booklet detailing the inner-workings of The Y's programs and directors, and some posters for the welcome area to help Members understand how our Y interacts with our community.
| | |
Working with The Y was an opportunity I never imagined for myself, but I am thrilled to be a part of this community focused atmosphere, and promote healthy living for everyone.
When I'm not at work, I am watching PWHL games with my wife and our two cats: Sprinkles, and Bunny. (Bunny has three legs, so she hops!)
Be sure to stop on by the Welcome Desk at 570 York Street to introduce yourself to Oliver.

FIFA WORLD CUP WATCH PARTIES!
Starting on June 12, the YMCA Youth Advisory Council kicked off Canada's participation in the FIFA World Cup with an incredible watch party in the gymnasium at 570 York Street.
There is a series of watch parties that go well into July, so it's not too late to get in on the fun!
| | |
Throughout the party, there are games and prizes and snacks, as well as lots of cheering for Team Canada!
This event would not be possible without the support from our community. Special thank you to Andrew Craik, Senior Investment Advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns, for donating funds to support the Youth Advisory Council in organizing this event. And thank you to Supplement King for donating an incredible prize package for a deserving soccer fan!
If you wish to attend an upcoming watch party, there are three remaining dates in July:
- Tuesday, July 14 at 4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 15 at 4:00 p.m.
- Sunday, July 19 at 4:00 p.m.
We kindly ask that you register online ahead of time.
Thank you for participating and GO Canada! GOAL!

Keeping up with Mackenzie!
Mackenzie Fawcett is a familiar face around our YMCA. She first joined the Y as a personal trainer, and while pursuing her MBA in Sport and Recreation Management, she has taken on a new role as an intern with our team.
If you've been around the Y lately, you've probably seen Mackenzie hard at work helping to plan and organize our FIFA World Cup Watch Parties.
| | |
She also serves on the YMCA Youth Advisory Board and is leading a meaningful project to capture and preserve the stories of YMCA members, staff, coaches, and volunteers in order to highlight the people who make our community so special.
No matter what she's working on, Mackenzie brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive attitude to everything she does. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication to our YMCA and the energy she brings to our community each day.

Y STORIES: COMMUNITY IN ACTION
MEET NADIA
Hi, my name is Nadia! I'm a Group Fitness and Pilates Instructor here at the YMCA. I moved from British Columbia to Fredericton last year. I've been coaching and teaching fitness for over five years, and I feel incredibly grateful to continue doing what I love here at the Y.
| | | The YMCA was actually the first place I started working after moving to Fredericton, which made it a very special part of my transition. Joan was one of the first people I met. I shared my teaching background with her and mentioned that I would love to continue instructing classes and hopefully bring Pilates to the Y. She was incredibly welcoming and supportive, and thanks to that opportunity, we've been able to grow the Pilates program together. | | | | One of the most meaningful moments for me has been watching those classes continue to grow and seeing members enjoy them so much. Recently, I asked participants for feedback and reviews, and reading their kind words reminded me why I love coaching. Knowing that I've helped someone feel stronger, move better, or simply enjoy coming to class means so much to me. The people here truly feel like family. | | If you wish to join one of Nadia's classes, or any other group fitness class, please see all schedules online by clicking on the button below. | | |
