Let’s face it: July in Sacramento can be seriously hot. As a city and LGBTQ+ community, we respond the best way possible: with more opportunities to gather and stay cool. Whether you’re meeting friends for a cold beer or a frozen cocktail, enjoying some ice cream after dinner, or waiting for the delta breeze to kick in at an Athletics baseball game or a Republic soccer match, summer is best spent with people you love.
Which is why I’m so excited about this year’s Pride Day at the State Fair, presented by the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, July 25. Visit RainbowChamber.com for tickets; they’re only $35 and include fair entrance, parking, and an amazing lineup of Pride Day events: performances by the Sacramento Sirens cheer squad and the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus; a Wine Garden meet up; and the afternoon in a rare, air-conditioned space with Drag Queen Bingo and a Disco Dance party. The fun even extends into the evening as KC and The Sunshine Band take to the main stage. Many avoid the State Fair in the heat, but here’s a way to get the whole experience for a great price while being surrounded by your community and still be able to retreat to the AC in the afternoon.
And the Rainbow Chamber brings you more ways to embrace the heat this summer:
Our July Networking Mixer is a lunch—Tuesday, July 21 at 11:30 AM at SMUD HQ, 6301 S St. The air conditioning should be great at SMUD! Tickets are just $25 for a box lunch and some great networking with other business leaders. Visit RainbowChamber.com to register.
On Sunday, August 16, we’re delighted to present the first Dashin’ Down the Delta, a new 5K Fun Run/Walk at Scott’s Seafood on the River at 4800 Riverside Blvd. The Run/Walk starts at 8:00 AM in the cool morning air along the beautiful Sacramento River trail. After, stay at Scott’s Seafood for the included, fabulous Sunday brunch featuring music, merriment, and lots of opportunities to connect. Register at Dashindownthedelta.com.
Don’t forget the Rainbow Chamber Foundation’s Scholarship Program. Applications are open through August 15 in several categories for those enrolled this fall at a college or qualified vocational school. Apply at RainbowChamber.com.
Finally, it’s not too early to save the date for our Boas and Bowties Gala, Thursday, October 22 at 6 PM at the Hilton Arden West. It will be an extra-special night as we celebrate the Rainbow Chamber’s 25th Anniversary with live entertainment, awards, an auction, and of course, a chance to rub elbows with community and business leaders.
Stay cool this July! I’ll look forward to seeing you out there!
With pride,
Thomas Kane
Sacramento Rainbow Chamber Board President
