Choice School Gala

The Choice School Gala and Fundraiser was an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, generosity, and community spirit. Held in celebration of the school’s 40th anniversary, the event welcomed 151 members of our school families and broader community for a night of connection and celebration.

Guests enjoyed an elegant atmosphere, delicious food, and lively entertainment, but the real stars of the evening were the silent and live auctions. With over 55 silent auction items—ranging from exciting travel experiences to beautifully curated gift baskets generously donated by our classes—there was something for everyone to bid on and enjoy.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the live auction, led with great energy and humour by our Principal, Mr. Bolina. The much-anticipated “Principal for a Day” auction item sparked a flurry of bids, with the honour going to our delighted Grade 2 student, Nixon!

A special moment of the night was the cutting of the 40th Anniversary cake, led by our Principal, Board Chair, and two of our students—a symbol of Choice School’s rich history and bright future.

Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our community, we raised almost $9,000, which will go directly toward classroom improvements to benefit all our learners.

We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, donated, and helped make this event such a success. Here's to the next 40 years of learning, growth, and community at Choice!

International Delegation from Shanghai Visits Choice School

Choice School was honoured to welcome a distinguished delegation of over 12 educational leaders from Shanghai this month. Representing a variety of schools and colleges across the region, the visitors travelled to Canada to explore innovative educational practices and to build global connections with schools committed to excellence and innovation.

During their visit to Choice, our guests had the opportunity to tour the campus, observe classrooms in action, and engage in conversations with staff and students. They were particularly interested in our approaches to personalized learning, gifted education, and the strong sense of community that defines our school.

It was a pleasure to share insights, exchange ideas, and reflect on common goals around student growth, inquiry-based learning, and global citizenship. The visit provided a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the work being done at Choice while also learning from the perspectives and experiences of our international colleagues.

We look forward to continuing this dialogue and hope this visit marks the beginning of a long-term, collaborative relationship. Strengthening our connections with educators around the world is part of our commitment to nurturing globally minded learners.

Celebration of the Arts at Choice School



Choice School was alive with creativity and expression during our annual Celebration of the Arts—a joyful showcase of the diverse artistic talents of our students. The event highlighted the many ways in which art is woven into our school’s culture and curriculum.

The school was transformed into a vibrant gallery, with static displays of student artwork lining the halls and classrooms. From detailed drawings and colourful paintings to mixed media and sculpture, the pieces reflected a wide range of techniques and personal expression. These displays offered a wonderful window into the creative thinking and imagination nurtured every day at Choice.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was a henna tattoo station, where students eagerly lined up to have beautiful, temporary designs drawn by a skilled henna artist. This interactive element brought an exciting cultural touch to the event and was a big hit with students of all ages.

The celebration also featured drama performances by our students, who took to the stage to showcase their developing skills in theatre and storytelling. Their confidence, teamwork, and creativity were on full display and warmly received by the audience.

Events like this are a reminder of the importance of the arts in developing well-rounded, expressive, and thoughtful learners. We are so proud of all our students who participated and shared their talents, and we thank our staff and families for their support in making this a truly special occasion.

Birch Class Brings History to Life

As part of our Social Studies unit on Canadian history, Birch students took a deep dive into the story of how British Columbia became part of Canada.

Working together in small groups, students created an engaging and informative timeline that highlights the key events leading up to BC's decision to join Confederation in 1871—and the significant developments that followed.

This project encouraged students to become young historians as they researched important figures, political debates, and economic factors that influenced BC’s entry into Canada.

They examined topics such as the Gold Rush, the promise of a transcontinental railway, and the region’s financial struggles—all of which played major roles in shaping public opinion at the time. Using a combination of historical texts, digital resources, and classroom discussions, students not only learned what happened but also why it mattered. They explored questions like: What motivated BC to join Canada? What were the challenges in uniting such a vast and diverse country? And how did this decision impact Indigenous communities and the development of the province?

The timeline became more than just a visual aid—it was a collaborative effort that allowed students to build skills in research, communication, and critical thinking. Their final display showcased not only the chronological journey of British Columbia but also the deep curiosity and engagement that they brought to the subject.

Learning about the Fire fighters

As part of Career Day, Hemlock and Birch students wrapped up their Fire Safety unit with a special visit from the local fire department. Over the past few weeks, students had watched five educational videos, completed quizzes, and learned how to stay safe in the event of a fire—at home, at school, and in the community.

The firefighters brought their truck and equipment to the school, showing students the tools they use to stay safe and help others during emergencies. Students were especially excited to see the fire hose in action and explore the different compartments of the truck.

During the visit, students from both classes asked thoughtful questions about what it’s like to be a firefighter, the challenges of the job, and how firefighters train to respond to emergencies. The visit not only reinforced everything they had learned during the Fire Safety unit, but also gave students a meaningful glimpse into the daily work of firefighters and the importance of their role in the community.

What's going on at the Langley Museum

This month, Hemlock students wrapped up three weeks of learning about the fur trade, settlers, explorers, the Gold Rush, the Indian Act, and the formation of treaties. They explored how each of these aspects of history helped shape early Canada—learning about trading posts, the exchange of goods, and the complex relationships between Indigenous peoples and European settlers. To bring their learning to life, students visited the Langley Museum National Historic Site.

During the field trip, they walked through several historic buildings, including the servant quarters, trading window, storehouse, blacksmith shop, big house, kitchen shelter, and the bateau. Students had the chance to take part in a hands-on activity, trying their luck at gold panning—just like the prospectors during the Gold Rush. They also took part in a fun fur trade goods exchange activity and even built their own fort on the playground. One of the most memorable parts of the day was hearing from Hazel (Filardo) Gludo, a First Nations interpreter, who shared her knowledge about the land, traditional language, and fur trading from an Indigenous perspective. She also spoke openly about the lasting impact of residential schools and the importance of preserving Indigenous cultures and languages.

We’re really proud of how respectful, thoughtful, and engaged students were throughout this unit. They asked insightful questions, made meaningful connections, and developed a deeper understanding of Canada’s history and the importance of learning from diverse voices.

Choice School players Shine at SchoolReach Nationals!

This year, the Choice School SchoolReach team achieved something truly special — they were invited to represent British Columbia at the Junior National SchoolReach Competition! This prestigious event brought together top teams from across the country, each representing their province in a celebration of quick thinking, teamwork, and academic knowledge.

Our team — Justin, Louie, Magnus, Keyan, and Ryan — faced off against the best and brightest from across Canada. After five intense rounds of play, they proudly finished 5th out of 8 teams at the national level. It was a remarkable achievement and a moment of pride for our school community.

The team showed grit, focus, and an astonishing breadth of knowledge. Boys, you truly are walking encyclopedias — your passion for learning and your competitive spirit were on full display, and you represented BC and Choice School with excellence.

We are incredibly proud of you all. Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment!

Pine and Fir Class Adventure to Camp Squeah

This month, the students of Pine and Fir classes set off on an unforgettable three-day adventure to Camp Squeah — a trip filled with nature, teamwork, and plenty of memories!

Surrounded by towering trees and fresh mountain air, students immersed themselves in a wide variety of outdoor experiences. From archery to high ropes, nature hikes to campfire songs, every moment brought opportunities for growth, courage, and connection. For many, it was a chance to challenge themselves in new ways and discover hidden strengths — whether climbing higher than they thought they could, or simply being away from home for the first time.

Evenings at Camp Squeah were especially magical, with shared meals, cozy cabins, and lots of laughter echoing through the forest. The highlight for many was the campfire — complete with skits, stories, and marshmallows, of course!

This trip wasn’t just about outdoor fun; it was also about building friendships, deepening class bonds, and learning more about ourselves and each other. Pine and Fir students returned with muddy shoes, tired smiles, and a treasure trove of stories.

Camp Squeah will live long in our memories — an adventure we’ll never forget!
