Message from Helene Recovery Coalition |
NC Office of State Fire Marshal Statement Regarding Temporary Housing Emergency Rule
Disclaimer: The following post is not intended to serve as legal advice, but is for informational purposes only.
Helene Recovery Coalition highly commends and greatly appreciates the extensive work of the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal in their concerted support to the Counties and the Community concerning risk mitigation of interim shelter and home restoration in the midst of complex post-Helene extensive devastation.
NC Office of State Fire Marshal released the following statement and guidance in support also of the many nonprofits and volunteers providing RVs and Tiny Homes to the Western North Carolina residents who are struggling to stabilize on an interim basis while rebuilding their lives and livelihoods through increasingly harsh winter weather.
Helene Recovery Coalition encourages local, regional, and national nonprofits, churches and faith groups, volunteers and donors who are donating and organizing RVs and Tiny Homes for Western North Carolina residents in need, to be in direct contact with the NC Office of State Fire Marshal with regards to the temporary housing regulations and any support they may provide.
If any nonprofit or faith group needs support in reaching these offices directly, please feel free to reach out by responding to this email, and we will immediately assist.
Please note also that the State Fire Marshal is responsible for overseeing the licensure of home inspectors who are core to the evaluation of residential properties and determination of requirements for stability in rebuilding. Given the expense involved in working with licensed home inspectors, Helene Recovery Coalition is advocating for Pro Bono support and/or sponsorship to be provided to homeowners as part of the redevelopment efforts especially for low-income communities and for those WNC residents who have lost so much, or have lost absolutely everything.
Please see below for full text of NC Office of State Fire Marshal’s statement regarding the temporary housing emergency rule, including direct point of contact.
Disclaimer: Helene Recovery Coalition is not affiliated to the NC Office of State Fire Marshal, and is sharing this information for awareness and educational purposes.

Vance tells residents in hurricane-stricken North Carolina that they haven't been forgotten
by Spectrum News
Vice President-elect JD Vance on Friday assured residents of western North Carolina still cleaning up from Hurricane Helene that they haven't been forgotten as he surveyed storm wreckage and talked to first responders in one of his first public appearances since the election.
“Certainly when this administration changes hands in the next 45 days, we’re going to do everything that we can to help people rebuild, to get them back on their feet, to bring some commerce back to this area, but, most importantly, to allow people to live in their homes,” he said.
