Pride Month Celebration

GSCNC celebrated Pride month in style!

Thanks to our LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, GSCNC hosted our second booth at DC's Pride Celebration! Girl Scouts and staff got to march in the parade for the first time this year.

At our offices, staff celebrated with a Pride-themed "crafternoon." In addition to a short presentation created by Kat Michalak about flagging and accessories in the LGBTQ+ community, we designed our bandanas and bucket hats!

Betsy West's Moment of Joy

I recently experienced a wonderful intersection of Girl Scouts and my personal life. On Sunday morning at Arcola United Methodist Church, three Girl Scouts I didn’t recognize attended in uniform with their families and shared their Silver Award project with the congregation. They built two large, raised vegetable garden beds on church property, and the fresh produce will be donated to guests of the Dulles South Food Pantry, which operates next door to the church.

That same morning, Arcola received a Plaque of Appreciation from Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital for its years of support to local Girl Scouts. Seeing these two important parts of my life come together in such a meaningful way was a joyful reminder of the impact Girl Scouts has throughout our community.

Staff Celebrations: Congratulations Graduates

Linda Knapp's Daughter Eden

Linda Knapp (Membership Team 4):

"I am filled with joy as I share that my daughter, Eden Knapp, graduated from Columbia University on May 20th, 2026, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Aerospace Engineering. On June 8th, Eden will be joining Impulse Space in Redondo Beach, CA, as an Associate Mechanical Engineer on their Vehicle Engineering team. Then in September, Eden will be heading to the United Kingdom as a US-UK Fulbright Commission Scholar to pursue a Master's in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. While there, she will be researching solar sails, specifically looking at their uses for climate change mitigation and space travel."

Heather Weschler's Daughter MJ

Heather Weschler (Membership Team 3):

"My daughter, MJ, graduated from Williamsport High and is off to the University of Maryland in the fall. She proudly shared her Girl Scout experience in the graduation program! Mom couldn’t be more proud!"

Julia Funari's Sister Zoe

Julia Funari (Membership Team 4):

"Proud big sister alert! My little sister, Zoe, graduated from high school on June 5. She was a Girl Scout (Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania) from kindergarten to her senior year! She posed with all of her vests during her senior photoshoot. She will be attending Shippensburg University in the fall to study elementary education."
