Hello,
As we head into August, even though it feels like summer is just beginning, the school bells will be ringing soon. School supplies line the shelves, families are getting in every bit of summer vacation, and the weather couldn’t be better.
Hopefully you are enjoying your summer too welcoming visitors and locals into your business. It’s not too late to offer, “Back to School” specials, maybe its on supplies, products, or even meals as families prepare to get back to the hustle and bustle again. Think outside of the box and how you can take advantage of these last few weeks before the kids head back to school.
Not only is school quickly approaching, we’ve heard that the wine harvest is starting already, which is quite early, but with all the heat we’ve had, it’s not a surprise. Some events coming up are the Sta. Rita Hills Wine & Fire event. This all happens August 13-16. Be sure to check out their site for more information and event details. Then October 1-4, the Taste of the Santa Ynez Valley is back and showcasing our beautiful valley and all the great wine and food we have here. Don’t miss it! Look here for more information.
Please look over the newsletter and take in all the events yet to come.
As a reminder, our newsletters may prompt you to "click to view the entire message" near the bottom. Click to continue reading more information, events, and news until you reach the end. There's a lot to share, so make sure you read all the way through.
If you have anything you'd like to share with the Chamber, feel free to send it over, and we'll include it in our next newsletter.
We hope to see you around and at our upcoming events. Thank you for your continued support!

Introducing Quarterly Mixers
We have changed our format to doing mixers on a quarterly basis. With that being said, we will be hosting our 3rd quarter at Vega Vineyard & Farm on September 16th from 5-7pm. This mixer will focus on our Business Service industry sector, so we'll be reaching out to those business members to invite you to participate with us and showcase your business.
Here are the Themes of this year's mixers.
- Quarter 1 - February 18th (Health & Wellness)
- Quarter 2 - June 17th at SYVBotanic Garden (Hospitality)
- Quarter 3 - September 16th at Vega Vineyard & Farm (Business Services)
- Quarter 4 - October 21st (70th Anniversary Celebration for the Chamber) TBD
We would love to find a host for our 4th quarter mixer. If you are interested, please reach out and we'll get you on the calendar. This last mixer we will not only highlight our host's business, but also this will serve as our Anniversary celebration. If you are interested in showcasing your business, please reach out to our office and let us know. We tend to do the third Wednesday of the month to not conflict with neighboring Chambers and events. Our mixers take place from 5-7pm and our hosts usually provide wine/beer and small bites, but you are welcome to partner with our other members to co-host with you.
It's a great way to highlight your business and invite our members in.

Free Microchip Readers now Available in Buellton.
The City of Buellton, in conjuction with the Santa Barbara County Animal Care Foundation, has purchased and installed five Pet Microchip Readers. The readers are available 24/7 and allow users to read the identification code of a microchipped animal. This code can then be entered into a pet microchip registry to obtain the contact information for the pet's owner. Instructions for use are found at the microchip station.
Stations have been installed at River View Park, Village Park, Oak Park, PAWS Park, and the SYV Humane Society office located at 111 Commerce Drive in Buellton.

- Santa Barbara Blueberries on Restoration Oaks Ranch will have UPick blackberries and raspberries in July and August. We may have a few scattered blueberries and strawberries remaining to pick as well.
- Pip the mama goat is spending her summer vacation with us again this year, and she has four new babies in tow. A perfect day would be: pick a bucket or two of berries, eat a picnic lunch in the shade of a sycamore tree, then walk over to the corral and start a conversation with the goat kids with a bright "hellloooo". They will happily respond in kind. We might even be able to give you some treats that you can feed them.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?
Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Tips for this Month:
AUGUST
Stormwater Tip of the Month:
Need to wash your car at home and wondering if this is an authorized activity? Yes and no… Yes, you can wash your car in a driveway or parking lot using clean, potable water. Ideally, the wash water
would flow to a landscaped area and not to the gutter or drain. No, you should not use soaps or any chemicals, as these can pollute stormwater runoff. Visit your City’s Stormwater Management webpage
(Buellton or Solvang) to find more vehicle maintenance tips to reduce stormwater pollution prevention.
Water Conservation Tip of the Month:
Leaks are sneaky little water wasters! Take a quick peek at your sinks, toilets, and outdoor faucets. Got a drip? Fix it quick! Not sure how? The County of Santa Barbara’s Water Wise website has handy videos to guide you step by step.
