Lease Agreement for Area Under 17th Street Causeway

Recently, FDOT proposed limiting the use of the areas under the 17th Street Causeway to "transportation projects," even though these areas are currently used for open public space, public parking, and a public boat ramp. At the request of community representatives, Warren deferred the lease agreement for these areas to give staff time to re-negotiate the language. As a result, the new leases that were approved at the February 21 meeting accurately reflect and preserve current uses.

Las Olas Tunnel Canceled

The City of Fort Lauderdale recently abandoned a study regarding the feasibility of a tunnel from Downtown Fort Lauderdale to the beach under the Las Olas Bridge, proposed by Elon Musk's Boring Company. Staff was instructed to return any consultancy fees not already spent to the city.
