Celebrating 19 th Amendment Centennial in National Women’s Suffrage Month
August 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. The passage marked the largest expansion of democracy in the history of our country. The next DWCCV Virtual Brunch Meeting on August 15 will include an observance of the historic centennial.

While California's women were guaranteed the right to vote in 1911, the passage of the 19 th Amendment enfranchised voting rights to women nationwide. However, there were limitations: Only white women gained the right to vote in 1920. Voting rights for ALL Americans—men and women of all colors and shades—were full guaranteed with the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
