What’s new at Camp Jorn? Where to start might be the better question? It is very exciting to be preparing for a normal summer of programs! Yes, we are registering for resident, day, and family camps at this time so jump in and test the water. At the end of the day, kids need Camp and we will figure out how to operate safely.
There is exciting news… because kids missed resident camp in 2020, we are offering focused Explorer 2-week sessions in addition to the Discovery 1-week options. This will allow everyone a bit of catch-up time. And best of all – the tiered pricing options are being supported by Camp Jorn Endowment Funds and the generosity of donors. This means the best value ever for all sessions including TEVA and Leadership Development Programs. Trips will be back to ensure unparalleled growth opportunities and bring our mission to life…. “Building character, confidence and community through enriching outdoor experiences.”

FOUR MONTHS UNTIL DAY CAMP |

As of today, there are four months until the first day of day camp. That is four months until cannonballs into Rest Lake. Four months until the construction of gnome homes. Four months until gaga ball, hikes on Fox Island, singing Tiny Turtle Tim, and four months until we get to welcome day campers back to the best place on earth. It would be an understatement to say that I am excited for this upcoming summer.
Over the past two summers, I’ve watched day camp grow in more ways than I could have imagined. Not only have I watched little Guppies and Minnows (5 and six year olds) turn into Perch and Walleyes (7-8 year olds) but, I’ve watched staff become more comfortable with managing challenging behaviors and coming up with crazy and fun ways to entertain campers. I’ve watched day camp grow in numbers, too! Can you believe it, we now can offer camp to nearly 100 kids every day? 100 KIDDOS get to experience all that Camp Jorn has to offer. Lastly, I’ve watched myself grow, I’ve learned that the little moments are the most magical ones and that some days things just don’t go as planned and that is okay.
This summer things are going to grow, too! Your campers are going to grow as they gain confidence and try new things during group games, field trips, and when guests come and visit us. Staff will grow as we all learn how to strengthen our skills, learn how to keep all of camp happy and healthy this summer, and as we manage two amazing programs. Finally, I will grow as I take on a new role and water my staff by supporting them through all of this growth. Can you feel the smile growing on your face? I can because there’s only four months until it all starts.

Although it’s still cold outside it feels like the summer is getting closer and closer. Right now we're in the middle of building up a strong staff to give each of our campers an amazing experience at camp this summer. With each new applicant, I grow more and more confident that this summer will be exactly that, amazing! A strong confident staff is key to a successful summer. We are looking for committed and high-quality candidates who are ready to further their career as youth development professionals and to make an impact on children of all ages as counselors, instructors, assistants, and more. Greetings from the Child Care world. We are doing great. Loving the snow but also feeling incredibly grateful we have the dining hall to play in when the temperatures drop too low for our fingers and toes. The dining hall has been transformed into our very own gymnasium during the week.
In the past couple of months, the childcare has been fortunate enough to be awarded grant funding that was designated for staffing and equipment. The upgrades have been very well received; the children are all enjoying the new equipment. It is like Santa visited childcare too!
Summer enrollment flyers are now available online and hard copies will here the first week of February. We are already having families signing up! Summer programing is looking exciting! We have teamed up once again with the Discovery Center to bring programing here, right into our childcare. Licia or Annie will be coming once a week to visit us. Our summer lineup includes eggs, turtles, birds, worms, lake bugs, bubbles, frogs/toads, beavers, wolves, and trees!
New this year, is special programing just for our four-year old’s that are enrolled. This programing is still in the works, although many of the activities will be building off of each week’s topic provided by the Discovery Center. These four year will also be participating in other activities designated just for them; as we get closer, I will be coordinating with our day camp staff, utilizing some of their recourses. It is my hope that these special activities will be building blocks for the children to become excited for their transition from childcare to day camp next!
As always, our summer will include lots of outside time, hikes, water play, pontoon rides and awesome breakfast, snacks, and lunches from our very own dining hall.

Camp is more than just a geographical location, a get away, or a moment in time. It is a forever lasting energetic force, both in my heart and the hearts of so many who have the opportunity of being a part of it.
Bob Runyan, my grandfather, was the special soul who initiated my connection with camp. As many people know he was a big believer in Camp Jorn, so much so that he dedicated much of his free time to the enrichment of its property and welfare. He helped build many buildings on the grounds, all of which we still get to enjoy today. It is memories and energetic love like this, that this location is what it is today. When you enter the grounds you can feel the love palpitating through the trees and buildings, deep inside of each of us we feel we made it home....read more here!
