A note from Doris Daniels, our Recreation Administrator, and the person who started raising money for the Jimmy Fund on behalf of Normandy Farms back in 1983.
|
|
"We started raising money for the Jimmy Fund in 1983. Over the years we have had guests stay with us that traveled to Boston for treatments at Dana Farber for various forms of cancer. We felt that we could make a difference raising money for this charity in their honor and for anyone impacted by their journey.
Throughout the season, we host various events from jail day arrests, ice cream socials, strawberry festivals, plant sales, casino nights, haunted walks, silent drawings, and more where our guests can enjoy and know they were helping a great cause at the same time.
During Covid we introduced our Normandy Farms Skunks! We will place several wooden, hand carved and painted skunks along with a sign stating “you’ve been skunked for the Jimmy Fund” on any site. All money raised would go toward the Jimmy Fund.
Our team members are very enthusiastic about helping to raise money and are always sharing Jimmy Fund information with our guests. Team members even donate any tips they receive to the Jimmy Fund. Everyone is excited about trying to exceed the amount raised the previous year. To date, we have raised $490,394 and we're hoping to reach $500,000 this year!
I am delighted that even as I step back from actively working all the events, the future generations continue to have the same excitement in raising money for this worthy cause. We have all had the benefit of knowing that we are helping fight cancer while providing new and exciting activities for our guests to enjoy.
Dana Farber and the cancer research teams have made huge advancements in finding cures for cancer and we hope that continues in the future."

- 4/1 Foxboro Jaycees Free Easter Egg Hunt, For over 30 years, each spring, right before Easter, the Foxboro Jaycees fill over 3500 (yes, three thousand and five hundred!) plastic eggs with candy and scatter them across Foxboro Common. (It’s not really a “hunt” because the thousands of eggs are everywhere so everyone gets a good bounty of goodies!) On that morning, approximately 300 children race to collect as many eggs as they can. We have three hunts separated by three age groups (1-3 years), (4-5 years), and (6-7-8 years). The kids then have a meet and greet with the Easter bunny (parents are welcome to take pictures if they like!) Rain Date: The next date, April 2 at 10AM
- 4/1-4/30, Newport Daffodil Festival, “Daffodil Days” began in 2012, inspired by requests of local merchants to celebrate the profusion of bright new daffodils that were starting to explode each April. “Rhode” races, a storefront window decorating contest, bike rally, doggie parade, garden tours, music concerts, and a “Driving Miss Daffodil” classic car parade became part of the many springtime festivities. Newport’s Daffodil Days is an all-volunteer event, now part of Newport in Bloom, a non-profit organization that for 40 years has encouraged residents and businesses to beautify their gardens and public spaces with flowers. If you choose to view the largest of the daffodil fields in Newport, please take pictures, not the flowers, so that all can enjoy.

We planted 60,000 tulip, hyacinth, and daffodils in bulb pans for our Easter crop which will be sold to local farm stands and stores in our area. Following our greenhouse season, we open later in April for our U-PICK TULIP season! This tends to begin in the middle of April and will run into May. Our farm loves tulips and we can't wait to share our enjoyment with you.
