The Georgia House of Representatives’ Page Program

This is an opportunity offering Georgia’s students between 12 and 18 years of age and older to visit the State Capitol and serve with the members of the House of Representatives. This program has become an essential part of the services provided to both the legislators and the public. For over 50 years, the experience of a legislative page has sparked many political aspirations and has been a connective link between elected leaders and Georgia’s young students.

How to apply:

Complete the  Page Interest Form   and email or fax it to your Representative’s Administrative Assistant

After your interest form has been reviewed and approved by House Page Staff, you will be contacted by your Representative’s Administrative Assistant confirming which date has been selected for you to page.

Message From
Rep. Roger Bruce
I hope everyone had a great summer and had a great time with family and friends. My wife and I had another reminder of how voting plays a big role in your life. We had planned a vacation for some time that included a cruise to Cuba. We were on the ship, Norwegian Cruise Line, headed to the island when the captain announced that the US government has banned all travel to Cuba and we are going to the Bahamas instead. We have yet to receive any explanation for the ban. Needless to say there were a lot of angry people on that ship, but as I said, another lesson for casting your vote.

We have several elections coming up. Early voting is underway, as we speak for District 61 County Commission, in Fulton County. Please take the time to let your voice be heard. In November you will have the opportunity to vote in many of your city positions. Our municipal government is the closest one to the day to day issues in our lives. Taxes, Police, Fire, Sanitation, Zoning, Parks and Recreation, Etc.

We will soon begin preparation for the 2020 legislative session. please contact my office if you have questions or concerns that need to be addressed when we go back. I want to hear from you.

The City of South Fulton: In case you have been wondering why all the trees are gone at the intersection of New Hope, Boat Rock and Campbellton it is to make room for a roundabout that is expected to improve the flow of traffic in the area. This is a project of the Georgia Department of Transportation in cooperation with the City of South Fulton. Your Tax Dollars at work, Above is a photo of what the new intersection will look like. I have received several calls saying they were told that the clearing was to put a liquor store in this space so I wanted to share what I know. If you have further questions about this or any other state project let me know.
If you own a Small Business in District 61, this space is available, free of charge, to tell others about your product or service. Just send me the information and we will consider it for publication.
District 61 is a very large district that includes Northwest Atlanta, The City of South Fulton, Douglas County and Cobb County. This includes 5 School Boards, 3 County Commissions. 4 City Councils, 58,000 residents and a whole host of diverse issues. I just want to say thank you to the volunteers that help to serve this community. (Yes, I said volunteers. The state does not provide any funds for staff, assistants, drivers, etc. We do it with volunteers.) There is 1 admin that is shared with 7 other legislators at the capitol but no one in the field. If you would like to get involved we welcome you to join us. Just call the office or send a message and someone will get back to you promptly.
Rep Bruce serves on 5 committees in the House of Representatives. one of them is the Appropriations Committee that is responsible for establishing the state budget. Earlier this month, Governor Kemp sent a notice to most executive agencies requiring them to cut their spending by 4% starting in the amended budget for FY 2020 and to prepare to cut 6% of their budgets for FY 2021. In response to the Governor's budget cuts, the Speaker's Office announced that appropriations committees would be meeting this fall in order to reconcile the new changes. The dates of the appropriations committee meetings have not been announced, however, there is an indication that they may meet as soon as September 26th and 27th. In addition to budget cuts, the appropriations committees may also be discussing how to decrease state revenue by lowering the tax rate for the Georgia's highest earners from 5.75% to 5.5%. This would be an additional tax break, because the General Assembly decreased the tax rate from 6% to 5.75% last year.

Please tune in and participate in the conversation as we will be recording live from the Capitol again once the session starts in January. On Fridays at 1 p.m. via my  Facebook  page.
