Big changes as today marks the roll out of 988, a nation wide mental health emergency number. This number will connect callers with emergency suicide prevention, substance use, and mental health resources. See the panel below for more info.

Our warm-line continues to serve the community, connecting people with the resources they need.  However, we sometimes receive requests that only the community can solve.  We recently received a request from a family from the war zone in Ukraine.  This family of four, with a autistic son, is looking for a US citizen to sponsor them as part of the Uniting for Ukraine Program.  If you would be interested in sponsoring this family, please contact our warm-line and we will provide their contact information.

988 Fast Facts

  • 988 will be confidential, free, and available 24/7/365, connecting those experiencing a mental health, substance use, or suicidal crisis with trained crisis counselors.

  • Access is available through every land line, cell phone, and voice-over internet device in the United States.

  • 988 call services will be available in Spanish, along with interpretation services in over 150 languages.

  • The 988 dialing code will be available for call, text, and chat by July 16, 2022. Until then, those in crisis should continue to use 1-800-273-8255, which will continue to function even after the transition.

  • The nationwide transition to 988 as a three-digit call, text, and chat line is just the first important step in reimagining crisis support in the U.S.

Can I participate in the Self-Determination Program?

To be eligible for the program, you or your family member must:

  • Have a developmental disability and currently be receiving services from a California regional center OR be a new client of a regional center
  • Be over the age of three or, if under, be qualified for services through the Lanterman Act
  • Live in the community and have free choice in your life. You are not eligible if you live in a licensed long-term health care facility unless you are using it to transition from that facility.

NEW SDP ORIENTATION OPPORTUNITY

Interested in learning about the Self-Determination Program but don’t know where to start?

Beginning Thursday, July 14, the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) and the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) are hosting online Self-Determination Program Orientations in English and Spanish.

The SCDD training team includes SCDD staff, self-advocates, and family advocates who have lived experience with the Self-Determination Program.

One size does not fit all. You can choose the presentation day and time that fits into your schedule. https://scdd.ca.gov/sdp-orientation/

After attending an SDP Orientation, you will have all the information you need to help you choose if it is right for you and enroll at your local Regional Center.

For more details, please see the Flyer BELOW
