ver the past two years, NJ Connect for Recovery has trained over 150 family members and peers to expand their knowledge and understanding of addiction and provided skills to more effectively support families impacted by the opioid epidemic.
It has always been our goal to expand the information and knowledge available to families to foster the creation of local family support and recovery groups and to begin training family educators across the state. Our
Family Education Workshops start
Motivational interviewing, mindfulness and the CRAFT model of family support are key components of our 12 session Family Education Workshop series. It is designed to be facilitated by family members and/or peers in recovery to provide those new to recovery with a basic understanding of addiction, opioids, treatment, recovery and how-to best support both those in recovery and their families. These workshops have proven to be an excellent way to launch support groups, and/or to be the introductory sessions for new families and peers in recovery.
NJ Connect for Recovery is offering FREE “train the trainer” workshops to teach family members and peers how to facilitate the Family Education Workshop.
This six-hour training reviews the workshop sessions, handouts, exercises/group activities, and group facilitation. Each participant will receive a manual that includes materials that can be reproduced for each session. The Family Workshop series is designed to be flexible to meet the need of your group or organization. NJCR family peers are available to assist in launching education series and are available for free ongoing consultation.
he training and materials are free, all we ask is a simple report of when and how many individuals participate in your training series.
