The Fountain of Life
"For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light."
Psalm 36:9

"Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart."
Psalm 36:10

Verse 9: "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light."

In verse 9 we have a statement of the reason why "they feast on abundance" at the Lord's house. The reason: "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light."

In verse 7 we "find refuge in the shadow of your wings." In verse 8 we are at Your table and by Your river. In verse 9 we are "in your light."

Those who walk with the Lord have 4 things. They: (1) "find refuge"; (2) "feast"; (3) "drink"; and (4) "see light."

What joy wells up in our hearts when we find ourselves under His wings, at His table, by His river, and in His light.

Verse 10: "Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart."

David characterizes the godly in 3 ways: (1) "[they] find refuge"; (2) "[they] know you"; and (3) "[they are] upright in hearts."

Don Wyrtzen says: "Overwhelmed by the stark contrast between human depravity and divine grace, David was driven to prayer. He pleaded for God's continued love and righteousness and for protection from arrogant and wicked men. Then he painted a word picture of the final doom of evildoers who lay fallen, thrown down, and unable to rise."

Romans 8:37-39: "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (NASB).

Seeing the word "fountain" in the text reminds me of that wonderful old hymn I would like to suggest as an expression of our worship this morning, "There Is a Fountain":
There is a fountain filled with blood Drawn from Immanuel's veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains:
Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away:
Wash all my sins away, Wash all my sins away;
And there May I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood Shall never lose its pow'r,
Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved, to sin mo more:
Be saved, to sin no more, Be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved, to sin no more.
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
