Note from "The Preach"
"One Pebble at a Time"
Questions of identity are wrought with assumptions, varied experiences, innuendo, and agenda. Now, I have said "who do you think you're talking to?" to a child on occasion, (totally rhetorical and laced with the energy of impending doom) but I would be really reluctant to ask even my closest friends and family "who do you say I am?" It's too vulnerable, I mean I am not expecting "Messiah" like Simon calls Jesus but what would they say? Risky business!

If we draw ourselves fully into this week's wisdom story we can begin a journey around this idea of identity...Simon recognized Jesus as the Chosen One but what did he actually mean by that? Whatever Simon meant, it was big...he got all kinds of affirmation from Jesus and a brand new name to boot. Peter would represent the people that would become the beloved community that Jesus was/is building. This is going to be interesting. Grab a small rock or pebble for your altar and catch and join us on Sunday or any day after that :-).

One Day
Matisyahu

See everybody that's existing
Got a mind of their own
We're all Kings and Queens
With a throne of our own
Tryin to raise a family
Is an empty home
We got to learn to stick together
Hate to be here alone
'Cause the world is a place
That will eat you alive in one day
Said the world is a place
That you can't survive without faith

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know some day it'll all turn around
Because

All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

It's not about
Win or lose
We all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging
In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy
But don't let it faze you no way (no way)

Gotta hold on
Livin' life day by day
Gotta hold on
Put your focus on that one day

All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence
Down with the hate
One day we'll all be free
And proud to be
Under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like

Gotta hold on
Livin life day by day
Gotta hold on
Put your focus on that one day

All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)
One day (one day), One day (one day)

Holy Power of the Spirit among us
We praise your presence
Your power come
to cause goodness
as within me so also among us
Nurture us all
Forgive that I am imperfect
as I forgive the mistakes of others
And lead us to light again and again
and guide is in the darkness
For you are infinity
and joy and security
in eternity. Amen.
