Spend your lunch hour with Fort Worth ISD parents learning about vaping and its impact on youth! The Fort Worth ISD Council of PTAs will host a free watch party, “Straight Talk: A Matter of Life and Breath” Panel Discussion, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 25 at Fort Worth ISD’s Professional Development Center, 3150 McCart Ave.
The organization is among 25 district-wide PTA councils in Texas streaming the discussion which addresses the nation’s deadly vaping crisis and its impact on youth live from the Texas Capitol. Following the live streaming, FWISD Superintendent Kent P. Scribner will address the group, and five to 10 parents will be randomly selected for a small focus group with the superintendent. Attendees may also sign up at the event for a committee taking action to extinguish youth vaping.
Last month, the FWISD Board of Education and City Council approved anti-vaping resolutions advocating for community dialogue on the health risks of vaping and an end to tobacco and nicotine use among youth. The resolutions were passed the same week
as local discussions about the topic

More than 5 million students in the United States are using electronic cigarettes and vaping, according to the recent survey conducted by the Food and Drug Administration. Studies show that more than 1-in-4 high school students have used e-cigarettes.
Within recent years, the e-cigarette usage among teens has doubled, leading to a nationwide epidemic. E-cigarette usage and vaping in the last couple years has been linked to multiple deaths and hospitalizations resulting from serious respiratory, heart and cancer-related illnesses.
Parents unable to attend FWISD Council of PTAs’ Feb. 25 watch party but who want to join a committee are encouraged to email
