Greetings!
Welcome to the October 2020 issue of Dateline!
This month we have a number of STEAM-related items featured in Dateline, including the annual Bay Area Science Festival, California Science Education Conference, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Education Contest, Nature Journaling with John Muir Laws, and Lamorinda Idol (now open to the entire county). And lest we forget, the fall Computer-Using Educators (CUE) Conference. Former Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year and current CUE President Shauna Hawes reports that this year's conference is packed with tremendous workshops and sessions that attendees can incorporate into their classes immediately.
The 2020 Great California ShakeOut! will take place on October 15, or whenever it's convenient to practice earthquake safety. It never hurts to be prepared, in the classroom and at home.
As usual, this issue features more distance-learning teaching resources and workshops, as well as a number of available grants and scholarships that may be of interest to you and your students.
Please enjoy and share Dateline with your fellow educators.
Sincerely,
Lynn Mackey
Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools
