Stewardship Committee Message
Pr. Connie mentioned in her sermon this past Sunday that King of Glory has survived and even thrived during the pandemic. Many wonderful ministries continue to thrive inside and outside the walls of the church. During this Advent season we hear the words of John the Baptist, "Prepare the way for the Lord!". As we prepare for Christmas and the coming year, please remember to turn in your pledges for 2022.

Here's the current picture for 2022:
· 54 financial commitment cards received (there were 87 pledges entered for 2021)
· $228,311 in total commitments for 2022
Please return your pledges, so that the Finance committee has accurate numbers to work with for the 2022 budget.
  • Call, 208-377-0220, or email Megan at the church office with your financial commitment. Megan's email: [email protected]
  •   Email Kurt Borm, financial secretary, with your financial commitment sheet so that he can update your record. Kurt’s email address: [email protected]
  •   Mail your Financial Commitment sheet to the church office: 3430 N Maple Grove Rd., Boise, ID 83704.

Thank you,

Farewell to Tom and Sharyn Christensen
We are sad to see Tom and Sharyn Christensen leave the Boise area. Due to health issues and wanting to be close to their daughter and her family, the Christensens will be moving after Christmas to the Seattle area.

   Upcoming Events with the Christensen's
Dec. 18 from 2pm - 4pm King of Glory will host a drop-in social time to say goodbye to Tom and Sharyn in the Narthex.

Dec.19 at the 10:30 service Tom Christensen will baptize Jaden Madjitoloum (Samson and Isabelle's youngest child). Pastor Connie will have a blessing for the Christensen's during this service.

*** King of Glory welcomes anyone to contribute to the "Christensen Farewell and Blessing Fund".  This fund is in honor of all the ways that the Christensens have contributed to the ministry at KOG. You can donate to this fund through Venmo or a check to KOG with the designation "Christensen's Fund.
The money will be donated to the ELCA Good Gifts project to buy GOATS to people in need throughout the world. Goats were selected by the Christensens because when they were missionaries in Africa they appreciated being able to roast a goat to eat. As you know, global mission is a passion for this faithful couple.
Pastor Connie's Note to Congregation

I have good news!!  Steve and I will be reuniting with our son, Zach, and his fiancée who we haven't seen in 2-1/2 years!! They are coming December 20 - 27 from Canada.
Even though this is an exciting and stressful time we feel blessed to be able to have our family visit Boise for the first time. Our daughter and son-in-law are also coming to Boise.
I am writing to ask you to give me a gift of time with my family. I have confidence in all of you to solve small issues at church during this time so that I can focus on preparing for our worship services on December 19, December 22 and our Christmas Eve services.
If you have an emergency during the week before Christmas, please CONTACT ME at 970-222-8394. You can call me or text me. That is always the best way to reach me. I want to know about your emergency, and I will contact you and provide pastoral care. This is a high priority for me.
If you have a question about a detail in our services, I recommend that you contact the staff, or our Council President Mary Rickerd at 208-378-9136, [email protected].
Let us keep our focus on the birth of the Messiah.
Our Worship Committee and Altar Guild, choir and staff are working hard to create worship services that will enhance our spiritual life and the lives of our visitors.
I will be praying for the Holy Spirit to be with us all at Christmas for our on-line worship and our in-person worship. We come together to remember and be renewed by the story of the birth of Jesus, to sing our cherished Christmas hymns and to eat holy communion together.

Thank you!!!!
Pastor Connie
DECEMBER COUNCIL CONNECTIONS
The King of Glory Church Council met for a regularly scheduled meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, December 7. Here are December meeting highlights:

Financial Report
Income received as of November 30, 2021:                                $415,274
Income budgeted:                                                                      $397,708
Income Received without the two Paycheck Protection Program Loans: $335,046
The church received two Paycheck Protection Program loans in 2021 for $80,228 added to the total income received. These loans were part of the Rescue Act passed by Congress to assist businesses and non-profit organizations with revenue shortfalls during the pandemic. These two loans have been forgiven and do not need to be repaid.
Total Expenditures as of November 30, 2021:                              $390,437
Budgeted Expenditures:                                                              $415,460
The expenditures do not include the capital improvement projects which are being funded by the loan from the Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA.
Thank you to all who have returned pledge commitments and new Time and Talent information. Your return of your pledge commitments has assisted the Council in preparing the 2022 budget. Pledge cards and Time and Talent forms are available in the church.

Update on Capital Improvement Projects
The three outdoor capital improvement projects have been completed! We are very relieved that the roof update and repair, and the painting of the cross tower were completed before the fall rains came to the Treasure Valley. Very timely as the fall rainy weather began just as the roofing contractor removed his equipment.
The audio and sound project is in progress. Neurilink and King of Glory representatives have been meeting to go over project details. It is expected that the actual installation will begin the end of February once ordered equipment has been shipped, and “pre” details like upgrading power and running cables have been done in the sanctuary. Matt Lee has assumed the responsibilities of Project Manager, representing King of Glory’s interests and needs in this project. We appreciate the assistance of Wes Lewis and Katie Vaage.

Christmas at King of Glory
In-person Christmas Eve services, are scheduled for Friday, December 24 at 5 and 7 PM. The on-line virtual service will premiere at 4 PM. All attending will be asked to mask and be vaccinated. Sunday, December 26 will have one in-person worship service at 10 AM.
The Council had a lengthy discussion on King of Glory’s pandemic protocol. Wanting to ensure a safe environment for all, and providing reasonable options for those who are not comfortable gathering in person, Council voted to continue requiring masks and vaccinations for all who attend worship. A constant in all pandemic protocol decisions continues to be the community case load in the area, and the spread of known and new variants. The acknowledgement of the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations and wearing masks and the practice of safe distancing continues to be important. What a special gift to be able to sing a hymn during the Advent worship services! Hymn singing will continue through the Christmas season.

Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton: Christmas Message 2021

This is our second pandemic Christmas. We thought this would be over so long ago. And still, we wear masks; we're physically distant; we can't be with friends and family as we used to do. And also, there's so much that's broken in this world, so much that tells us, “Why have hope? Just give up.”
But we have a hope that's stronger than any of this, stronger even than death. The hope of God comes in the form of a tiny baby, a helpless child; nevertheless, who grew to a man and in his fragile strength was willing to die on the cross and was raised again.
I don't know what next Christmas will bring. I don't know what New Year's will bring. But I do know we have hope.
St. Paul put it this way:
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Merry Christmas, dear church.
The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton
Presiding Bishop, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

We hope to see you there!

The 2022 Nominating Committee is beginning their work. Elected at the 2021 Annual Meeting were Dan Johnson, Mark Drew, Nicki Tompkins and Roxanne Jensen. They will be seeking candidates for Council terms (3 year terms) two full 3 year-terms on the Columbarium Board of Directors and nominations for the Nominating Committee Thank you for your interest if asked!
Lewis’ Honorarium

Since March of 2020 Wes and Dawn Lewis have provided a faithful ministry among us producing weekly virtual worship services. They put in thousands of hours into this unique ministry, and used their technical expertise to produce worship services for the whole world to participate in while we were distanced from each other and our sanctuary. We would like to thank them for this ministry and have set up an honorarium in their honor. You may donate on-line in a Vanco designated fund, or by check or cash. Please designate your gift for the Lewis Honorarium. We will present this gift at our January Annual Meeting. And yes, they are continuing their ministry among us until we are able to “live stream” from our sanctuary.
Advent and Christmas at King of Glory

You are invited to take quiet time during this Advent season by attending Wednesday in-person worship services at 7 PM in the sanctuary or a virtual dulcimer evening prayer service led by Steve Eulberg and Erin May Lewis, also offered on Wednesdays at 7 PM. The link for the service and the link to down-load the bulletin will be available on King of Glory’s website.

Christmas Eve services, both in-person and virtual are being planned and the actual worship times to be announced. We are excited that a special gift at the services will be “singing”! With the ending of crisis standards of care at area hospitals, a lower community transmission rate, and the ability of children to be vaccinated it will be special to celebrate with song! We are thankful that our music staff and choir members shared the gift of music with us as we listened to the words.
We will still require all to be masked while singing.
