On May 9
th
, Region 2 held our Delegate meeting virtually. Elections were held and the following were elected:
Nancy Goertzen, Director
Katie Russell, Vice Director
Kim Dahman, Treasurer
Shawna McCune, Secretary
The Region 2 show was discussed and we are going forward with the show, June 17 – 22.
The facilities are being improved, and will be done by the show!!!
We have some great applicants for our Region 2 Scholarship and look forward to awarding the winner(s) at the show in June!!!
ATTENTION REGION 2 EXHIBITORS
At this time, we’re still going forward and want to have this show a go for you ~ and hopefully the State of California and the powers-that-be at Earl Warren Showgrounds will work with us to make this happen!
There are a couple of things that you should know ~
Nancy Harvey will be our show secretary.
The entry form is fillable. Again, please email entries to Nancy Harvey.
Do not mail entries to Sharon.
Huge thanks to Sharon Richards for everything she’s done for us and we hope to have her back as soon as possible. She is fine but there are only so many hours in a day and even Sharon can’t stretch time or be in two places at once!
Our Pre-show working western judge will be Sheri Odom.
We need to get your entries in ASAP. We have limited stabling and portables are not an option. If any post entries are excepted, we will not waive post entry fees.
Payment needs to accompany entries but will not be deposited/charged until the show is definite go. If you have any questions about entries, please contact either Penny or Nancy.
Please check the premium list for Patrons information and be reminded that additional stalls and/or stall fronts have specific requirements. We are asking for early entries due to limited stalls. We hope to convince the State how important it is that we can hold this show and early entries will definitely help!
Our host hotel is the Ramada and they are very conscience regarding sanitizing and cleaning. Most of our restaurants are open for pick-up, many with their regular menu.
One final note:
for the show to be held, we will need your co-operation and understanding regarding Covid-19 protocol. If we to hold the show and prove that we, the horse show community, do want to go forward and hold more shows, we will have to follow the rules and protocol set forth. There will be specific rules regarding the show office, the grandstands, warm-up ring distancing and protection, food service, etc. Be sure to review the USEF website for further information there, as well.
We really hope to see you all in June for Region 2 and some “Fun in the Sun” !
Earl Warren Showgrounds is going through some major improvements! Redone arenas, all new footing, new sound system, new water truck, and much more. Construction will be completed prior to the show. We look forward to showing off the hard work of the horse community in Santa Barbara. This was a huge effort to SAVE EARL WARREN!!!! More improvements will come after our show!!

NEW DATES FOR REGION 8
The Region 8 Show Commission has been working hard to come up with a way for everyone to enjoy a vibrant regional horse show in 2020.
We are unable to go forward with the June 9-14, 2020 dates at this time and produce a show that will be both safe and enjoyable. The National Western Complex in Denver has been both cooperative and accommodating, as well as sympathetic to our concerns for our exhibitors.
However, we feel a show later in the season offers a higher probability of safety and success for all. With that in mind, we made the decision to move the show to the week of August 19th through the 24th, 2020. With this re-scheduling of the show, we are excited to be offering Working Cow Horse classes on Monday, August 24th. Trail and Ranch Horse Riding will be held on Sunday, August 23rd with the main ring classes finalizing on Saturday evening.
Region 8 will also be initiating our MILE HIGH ENGLISH PAYBACK in the English Pleasure and Country English Pleasure divisions. The Champion will be awarded $3,000 and the Reserve Champion $1,000 in both the Arabian and Half-Arabian Open, AAOTR and Junior Horse classes. The classes will have a total of $48,000 in prize money.
We are living in some very trying times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we do our best to provide opportunities for all members.

Like the rest of the nation (and world), Region 10 is in a ‘holding pattern’ on any larger group activities. A few horse shows are still scheduled, although we all accept the uncertainty of our well-laid plans. The rescheduling of our Region 10 Championship (originally to be held in St. Paul in June) is currently in a process of approval by the county where we would like to hold the show in August. It is a learning experience, to say the least, with NO certainty that the championship can be held.
For the most up-to-date information on which shows are being held in 2020, please reference our calendar and contact the shows directly.
http://region10arabians.com/
We hope everyone is staying safe, enjoying their horses in ways different than competing, and maybe even challenging ourselves to study and learn things we may have been putting off until we weren’t as busy. Topics such as genetics, Arabian breed history, discovering good books (horse related or not), organizing pictures and other historical records of our own, and keeping in touch with our friends through social media, Zoom, etc.
|
|
Everyone in Region 10 is looking forward to resumption of a more normal daily life than we presently are experiencing with the many restrictions due to the Corona virus. Stay safe – and take care of each other!

Region 13 is bringing back Endurance and Competitive Trail. The Region 13 Championships will be August 8-9, 2020 at Kensington Metro Park in Milford, Michigan. The entry form and information will be available on the website soon. Questions should be directed to Mindy Nagy the Ride Manager at

We are very excited to have competitive trail and endurance in the Region again. This event is also a fundraiser for Detroit Horse Power. Detroit Horse Power is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2015. It opens up opportunities for urban youth in Detroit to connect with learn about/from horses. They learn how to care for them, ride them and in doing so the children learn perseverance, empathy, responsible risk-taking, and self-control. This program started as a summer camp and has grown into a year-round after school program. Right now the kids are bused to participating barns that volunteer their facilities and horses. It makes a long day for these dedicated kids. Recently DHP acquired land with the Detroit city limits. Their hope is to raise funds for an equestrian facility to be built at the location. Having this facility within the city limits not only utilizes vacant land in Detroit, helping with the city’s comeback, it will allow DHP to expand the number of children who can benefit from the programs offered.

This is not just for Region 16 but for any lesson barn who wants to enroll. Brooke Gemmell and Lisa Robinson established the
Arabian School Horse Benefactors
fund. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, lesson barns are shut down. Instructors and trainers have lesson horses that aren't able to earn their keep. Brooke and Lisa stepped up to create this fund. People can sponsor a lesson horse with different levels of financial support. They get their name posted along with the horse they sponsor on Facebook. They have raised over $10,000 for barns across the country. Contact Brooke at
[email protected] or Lisa via Facebook.
The COVID-19 virus has changed our world, there is little to do now but hunker down,
abide by the orders to stay in place, distance yourself from others and pray.
As a member of the Arabian Horse Community you are never really alone,
by working together and doing the right things we will get through this pandemic.
Please know that the Region 16 Delegates, from all of our Region 16 clubs, are aware
and committed to doing what they can for the health and safety of our members and their horses.
We know that some members may be harder hit than others as we ride out this storm.
As members of AHA our first line of defense in tough times has been, and will continue
to be the amazing Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund (AHDF). From the AHDF website…
“An unexpected crisis can happen to any of us at any time, and we have little control,
no matter how careful, over when, how, or where.
What we do have control over is whether we are able to find a positive
path out of any given disaster…” such a fitting description in this current environment.
We will be a conduit for any Region 16 member that might find themselves in need.
Our region is committed to ensuring that our members horses are not affected beyond repair.
Please reach out for yourself or someone you might know that is in need via whatever means
is most convenient for you, phone, e-mail, twitter, facebook etc.
We want to try to prevent a bad situation from becoming worse.
There will be resources to help, please don’t be afraid or too proud to reach out.

Mission Statement:
To bring representatives from each AHA Region together to collaborate and execute plans to reach the following goals:
First, introduce new people to the Arabian horse through first-touch programs such as TAIL Tours,
Meet an Arabian Horse Days, farm tours and similar others.
Second to convert those first-touch event attendees to the next step of joining a lesson program, volunteering
at a local barn or other engagement with Arabian horses. And last, to encourage ownership and/or lease
of an Arabian horse and continuation of the attendees interaction with Arabians.

Region 18 News
Region 18 Championships have been suspended for 2020 but we are excited for the 2021 show! Our home facility at Ancaster Fairgrounds is under construction to build a second indoor facility. We plan on no evening session on Friday, to allow us to host a social function for our exhibitors and volunteers. We will once again have our famous stick horse class with prizes and have added classes to dressage and ranch riding. We look forward to seeing everyone July 22, 23, 24, 2021.
We had to cancel our Ranch Riding Clinic in April due to the pandemic, but hope to reschedule in the Fall. We also have a (tentative) dressage clinic with Lisa El Ramey scheduled for August 15, 16, 2020. Our members have been busy participating in the May “Meet An Arabian Horse” campaign on Facebook. Thank you everyone!
Our team has started planning the AHA Convention for 2021 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We are looking forward to an extracurricular trip to one of our local famous wineries. So much to see and do in Niagara Falls, attendees will want to come early and stay late to have time to take in the glorious attractions. We have provided the website for Niagara Falls, so you can start making plans now!
