Dave Bartholomew, rock 'n' roll pioneer and trumpeter, dies at age 100

Dave Bartholomew, the music producer, songwriter, arranger, trumpeter and bandleader whose chart-topping partnership with Fats Domino helped create rock ‘n’ roll and introduce the world to the New Orleans sound, has died at age 100.
His son  confirmed the news  to Eric Paulsen Sunday.
Among his many credits, Bartholomew is best known as the producer, songwriter and arranger behind Antoine “Fats” Domino’s biggest musical hits in the 1950s and 60s.

For the entire month of June we are lowing adoption fees to just $20.19! We have so many adoptable pets here on-site ready to go hiking, catch frisbees on the beach, jump in the river with you or just spend the day relaxing!

It's that time of the year again when our shelters are full! Full kennels and sweltering heat makes a shelter no place for a homeless animal. We need clear and clean kennels so we can save as many animals as we can from the summer weather.

This offer applies to ALL SPAYED AND NEUTERED animals on-site at our shelter. When visiting our website, animals located in foster care do not apply for this special. All other animals do! A minimum of three months of flea and heart worm prevention must also be purchased (but hey, you were going to buy that anyway)! We will also be offering bundles so you will have everything for your new pet.

So come on y'all! 30 days is shorter than you think! Come find your new best friend!

*Offer does not apply to the three day trial period. All potential adopters must still submit an application through our adoption team that must be approved to adopt. See our website for requirements here:  https://www.northshorehumane.org/adopt

Blue Crab and Creole Tomato Celebration
  23

801 Chartres St, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116

Each year, the arrival of summer in New Orleans is marked with the first Creole tomatoes served on local tables. No other tomato stirs as much excitement among New Orleans' locals and chefs as does the Creole tomato. "Creoles" are only grown in a unique area along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes, just south of New Orleans. This special area offers the needed alluvial soil to produce the distinguishable taste. One of the great culinary rewards of living in, or visiting, southern Louisiana is the pleasure of enjoying Creole tomatoes at the start of each summer. This June, Chef Erik has paired Creole tomatoes with Louisiana Blue Crab and created a special menu celebrating these delicacies.

Artisanal wines from Slovenia, featured in our July 3rd flight!
Happenings
Back to the Classics, Part ll
Last week in our "Breaking Down Burgundy" flight we focused the famous white wines of the region. This week we'll pour red Burgundy - from the cooler climate, value driven wines of the Cote Chalonnaise to the famous villages of the Cote D'Or, Pinot Noir is at its best in Burgundy. In this tasting we'll break down four production areas within Burgundy - Cote Chalonnaise (Mercurey), Cote de Beaune (Savigny), Cote de Nuit (Nuits St. George) as well as an entry level Bourgogne rouge. We'll taste an example from each area as we discuss the a different terroirs and characteristics and thus, different flavor profiles.

If you'd like a little something to snack on with your wine, Casey Foote will select and present a pairing plate ($10 with flight, $15 without the flight). No standing in line for our Wednesday flights - you sit at a table, we come to you and pour tableside complete with lots of educational info on what you are drinking. The flight of 4 wines is $20 - reservations are highly recommended as we can only seat walk-ins if space allows. All wines and cheeses are available for purchase to have at Swirl or you can take them to go. You can make your
