The Mets Loose

But Bakers Win

It was a gorgeous August evening with the temperatures in the low 80's as the New York State Bakers headed out on our annuaants. Just before the All Star Break, the Mets were the hot team and surely headed for the playoffs. However, since then, they cooled off. Traditionally when the Bakers show, the Mets win, but sadly this night while we showed up, the pitching and the offense did not.

So, how did the Bakers win you may ask. Well first of all baseball is great exercise. No we did not play, but we did get in our 10,000 steps in hiking from our parking spot to the gate.

Upon getting to our seats, we got to see the friends and families of our fellow Bakers who we have not in a while since last years outing was cancelled due to COVID19.

Most of us came wearing our favorite player shirt.
Then there is of course,
THE FOOD.

And the liquid refreshments.
Some people are a little more picky than others.

All of this while a baseball game was going on.

Then after each inning, the outfielders would keep loose by tossing the ball to each other. When done, they would often throw the baseball into the stands to the anxious fans. Tension built as Mets' outfielder Brandon Nimmo threw the ball high into our section. Crowds gathered, bare hands and baseball gloves went up, and finally .............

the ball was snatched out of the air by Robert Stork.

Just look at that smile and try and tell me we did not win that night.
While some valiantly fought for a baseball,
some just wanted to give or get a hug.
And others just got a chance for a family photo.
The 7th inning arrived and the Mets' TV Host and camera crew came to our section. They took shots of fan antics to be broadcast on TV and in the stadium, and spoke to some of our Baker Group.
Finally the 9th inning approached. The Marvelous Mets were down 8 to 0 with a measly 4 hits. It was our last chance to only score 8 runs and put the game into extra innings.

The offense came to life. Two out and the bases were loaded.
A big swing, and sadly the game was over. Yes the Mets did loose, but as you can see, we had a great time and those smiles made it a winning night.

Let's do it again next year.
