Dear Friends and Supporters of Saint John’s:

Halloween is a very special time at Saint John’s. For many of our kids, this marks their first experience dressing up and learning how to “trick-or-treat.” Below are some photos of our costume-clad kids collecting sweet treats door-to-door at our offices – no wonder this event is a staff-favorite!

The month of November started on a high note with our very successful Party for Change event, held at the Mather Jet Center. We presented our Champions of Change awards to long-time supporter and Capital Campaign contributor Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation , who came to our aid with a building sponsorship when we needed it most, and to Chef Santana Diaz of U.C. Davis Health , who has served as a mentor to the women in our program for many years, and has paved the way for many of our clients to gain employment, earning a livable, sustainable wage!

Great energy and excitement come with the holidays here at Saint John's! We will be busy with the December 5 Guest Chef Dinner at Plates Café, where we will celebrate the graduation of 14 more women from our Employment Training Program (a link to purchase tickets is below). There are many ways to volunteer and join in the holiday fun – these opportunities are also outlined below.

As always, thank you for all you do for the women and children at Saint John’s!

With warmest wishes,
Marc Cawdrey, Interim CEO

Allstate Sponsors Reverse Guest Chef Dinner

October 24 th marked the fourth annual “Reverse Guest Chef Dinner,” a highly anticipated event sponsored by the Allstate Foundation, where the “tables turn” to honor the women of Saint John’s and to recognize their hard work toward affecting real and lasting change in their lives. Some 70 women enjoyed a four-course meal provided, prepared and served by Allstate employees. The evening included a fun photo booth, a live DJ and dancing. Thank you Allstate for all you do for our families at Saint John’s!
Blog Post: Saint John's,
A “Before and After” View
Ever wonder how Saint John’s went from 20 homeless women and children on the steps of St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1985 to a full residential program serving up-to-270 women and children per day? For some answers, we asked Michelle MacLellan, executive assistant to our Interim CEO, Marc Cawdrey.
Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! Six New Women Have Just Entered the Work Force!
Congratulations to  Jessica P.  and Alishia P. for their positions at UPS;  Whitnee M. for her dream job as a bakery assistant at Food Source; Latonia M. for being hired by Culinary Staffing, Kirsten W. for her position at CYS, and Ariel B. for her new job at Vitalant!

We are so excited for and proud of these women who are making Real Change in their lives and in the lives of their children!
Building for the Future
In 2017 we purchased and renovated an 11,000-square-foot building adjacent to our campus, allowing us to increase our capacity to serve from 180 to 270 women and children per day. We have secured funding commitments for $3 million of this $4 million Building for the Future Project, with a goal of raising the remaining $1 million by December 31, 2019.

By giving generously today, you will help secure the future of programs that hold the promise of an end to homelessness for so many. Naming a bedroom, office, bench or a commemorative brick to line our walking path offers a great tribute to an individual, family or corporation - connecting your name with the meaningful work that happens every day at Saint John's Program for Real Change.
