PELLET STOVE MAINTENANCE TIPS

In keeping with our theme this month, today we are talking about pellet stove maintenance. This is especially important due to our 32 day subzero cold snap, since you will have used more bags of pellets than an average winter season of milder temperatures.
The chart above is from the Harman P Series owner's manual. Each manufacturer has a similar chart in their manuals and following these directives is what will keep the pellet stove operating at optimum performance levels. Not keeping up with proper maintenance tends to put undo stress on different elements of a pellet stove's system and that is when you need to start replacing parts. You'll notice above that under daily and monthly maintenance, there are things to be checked and/or cleaned specifically after 3, 25, and 50 bags of pellets being run through the stove. Remember, when you clean the components of your stove that the parts must be seated back in place correctly, otherwise your stove will fail to operate properly.
If you do discover that you need replacement parts, such as an igniter, combustion blower, or distribution blower, The Woodway generally keeps those parts in stock for the brands that we sell. For older models we are able to special order parts from our manufacturers. Our best tip on ordering parts is to have your serial number handy, as that will allow us to pull up a parts diagram specific to your stove, so that we're ordering the correct parts. If you find that you aren't comfortable doing troubleshooting or replacing parts on your pellet stove, we recommend finding a local chimney sweep by putting in your zip code at www.csia.org, as the local chimney sweeps also offer stove repair and maintenance.
