Principal's Message

Dear Fallback,

Greetings MES Family! I hope this finds you doing well. This time of year brings a lot of activity at MES, and one of those big events is officially accomplished as we have wrapped up State Assessments in third, fourth, and fifth grade. Our kids and staff prepared the entire year for this and I could not be more proud of all the hard work that was put in.

Parent/teacher conferences are wrapping up, and I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parents who showed up to partner with our staff to do what is best for our kids. This is a time to celebrate success, encourage effort, and plan for the future that begins Monday. Thank you for your support.

The PTO Color Run . . . Wow MES Family! Just WOW! I am happy to report that we raised over $35,000 during our Color Run fundraiser!!!!! My mind is officially blown. Your generosity is going to make it possible for our amazing PTO to continue to do great things for our students. The plan for the money is to provide items for classrooms through teacher grants and to make enhancements to our playground. Thank you so much for your generosity!

The Color Run fun is the evening of Friday, April 26, so please make plans for your family to attend. Just remember not to wear clothing you have an attachment to because the color powder will change the color of lighter-colored fabric permanently. I’m happy to report there are no entry fees this year, so everyone is welcome to participate!

Food trucks and games will be available beginning at 6:00. Kindergarten through 2nd grade will run at 6:30, and 3rd through 5th grade will run at 7:00. Prize and raffle winner announcements begin at 7:30. That is when Mr. Horn will get slimed and I will get TP’d by a plethora of students! Don’t miss out on this amazing event. I usually end up with a mouth full of color powder because I can’t stop smiling and laughing as I witness families building memories together. Thank you to our PTO for organizing this tremendous MES family event. See you there!

Thank you for all you do to support your children and our staff to create the best educational experience we can for our students. We’re in the home stretch, so let’s finish strong!
I would like to congratulate Kelli Holguin, first grade teacher at MES, for being honored as the MES Excellence in Education Award winner for this school year. Mrs. Holguin pours herself into doing what is best for her students and she is very deserving of this honor. Mrs. Holguin will be recognized along with the winners from each of the district’s schools at an all-district staff meeting on May 10. Congratulations Mrs. Holguin!

From The Counselor…

The month of April has been busy with State Assessments for our third through fifth graders. They did a great job and thank you for your words of encouragement to them going into the testing days. It meant a lot to your student.

Please remember that I am available if you have concerns regarding your child’s teacher placement for next year. We do not take teacher requests, however I am available to discuss your child’s needs. Feel free to call or email me at 350-2913 or [email protected] . You are welcome to stop by at conferences too.

If you are interested in having your child tutored over the summer, I have a list of teachers in the district who provide tutoring for a fee. If you would like a copy of the list, call or email me and I can send it to you.

Also, if you are moving please let the office know. It helps us with class placements. I always feel bad if I put friends together and one moves away. So if you know that you are moving, please notify us. Thanks!

Nurse's Notes

Dear MES Parents,

Our 5th grade students will soon be watching a video about puberty and growing up. The girls will watch their video “Always Changing About You (Girls Only)” in one room with Nurse Erin and Counselor Becky; and the boys will watch their video “Always Changing, Always Growing (Boys Only)” in another room with Coach Horn.
There will be an email sent out regarding this from ESC. If you have any questions about the videos or if you want to opt your child out of watching the videos, you may contact Nurse Erin.

Medications : As this school year is coming to an end, it is important to know the following information. If you have provided your child with a prescription or over-the-counter medication this school year, it needs to be picked up, please.  Medications cannot be stored over the summer and will need to be picked up by an adult by May 21, 2019, at the latest . Some parents like to pick up their over-the-counter medications when they are here for field day, which is May 17, 2019. Asthma medications will be sent home per district policy. If medications are not picked up by the last day of school, they will be disposed of - even prescription medications. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school nurse, Erin Ingalls, RN, at 316-350-2911. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Lost and Found Is Full!

If your child is missing a lunchbox, shoes, a coat, or anything else, please check our lost and found! All items left after the last day of school will be donated. Thank you!
MES Moments
Second and third graders performed their music progam "Disney Dazzle" for MES students prior to their "official" concert!
The Color Run Fundraiser kicked off with an all-school assembly filled with lots of energy, dancing and prizes! Students from Mrs. Johnson's 5th grade class made posters encouraging "Share Your Page".
Staff and students celebrated Autism Awareness Week April 1-5. Tuesday was "Wear Blue Day". Students wore multiple shades of blue and staff wore "Be Ewe" shirts provided by MES PTO.
Please Send Us Your Box Tops
We'll be sending one final round at the end of the school year so please have them to us by the last day of school. Thank you for all of the box tops! You have done an incredible job this year!

MES participates in the Box Tops for Education program. It's easy to do and can add up to a lot for our school. You simply clip the box tops off of products you probably already buy and have in your kitchen. Then send them to school with your student, and we turn them in for cash to buy things for the school.

Start Times & Transportation
Our school day starts at 8:45 am every day. Student drop off begins at 8:35 am. It is important that students are not dropped off prior to that time. This is a matter of safety as there are no staff members supervising until 8:35 am. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you need to drop your student off before this time, the YMCA has a latchkey program at MES. For more information, please call the YMCA at 316-264-1610.

Students who arrive after 8:50 am will be counted tardy. If a student is brought late to school, the parent must come into the office and sign them in.

The district dismisses students 40 minutes early every Wednesday to accommodate the Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The teachers participate in the PLC to discuss curriculum, instructional strategies, data review, technology training, etc.  School is dismissed at 3:20 pm every Wednesday.

Please call the office at 316-722-8230 if your child is going to be absent or if you have a transportation change.   For student safety, please let the office know of a transportation change before 3:00 pm, and before 2:30 pm on Wednesdays.

If your student is riding a different bus home with a friend, a note is required from both sets of parents.  These can be given to the office for Mr. White to sign and can then be given to the bus driver.
Deliveries & Invitations
Please be aware that school district policy does not allow us to accept flowers or other deliveries to students at school. Please contact your student's teacher to arrange a time to celebrate a special occasion with treats, etc.

BOE policy does not allow party invitations to be distributed at school. Please refer to the Skyward Family Access Student Directory or your classroom directory for student addresses.

Food Service
USD 266 uses the Skyward Food Service and RevTrak fee payment systems. Please check your email and phone numbers in Skyward, so you may be alerted when your child only has 2 lunches left. Parents receive an email when your child has $5.00 left in their account. Parents receive a 2nd email after your child has 1 lunch left. When your child doesn't have any money in the account, we have your child go to the office and call you. Please put money into the account that day. You will also receive a 3rd email when your child has a zero balance.

Parents may keep as large a balance as they wish in a child's account. If the student doesn't have enough in his/her lunch account to cover a meal, the account will be charged for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk if the student chooses to take one. No meal charges will be allowed and we are not allowed to go into one child's account to pay for a sibling.

Daily lunches are $2.45 each and extra milk is .40 cents. Feel free to join your student for lunch. Please notify the front office or your child's teacher of the day you are coming. Lunches are $3.60 for adults; please bring exact change as adult lunches cannot be taken from your child's account. Lunch menus can be found online at  usd266.com .

If you have any questions regarding Skyward and the RevTrak system, please call our school office. We want every child to have a good lunch, every day!
