December 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

During the months of November and December, our students typically participate in activities which focus on the Character Education Trait of Community. Since we are not together during this time, MSMS would like to encourage support for and usage of ”Maslow’s Pantry.” Maslow’s Pantry provides basic needs for all Maize families (non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products). We are in need of toilet paper, paper towels, and ready-to-eat items at this time. If you have a need or would like to support this cause, please contact Dr. Kristy Custer at 316-722-4790. Checks may be made out to Maize High School c/o Maslow’s Pantry. Donations may also be dropped off in the front foyer at MSMS.

I hope that your child is finding success with Full Remote Learning. As a reminder, students should join their assigned class via Zoom each day. Communication will take place through Google Classroom and school email. Please let us know if we can be of support to you and your child. Below are links as additional resources. Please contact the school if we can be of any assistance.

Scholars Bowl Sign-ups

The MSMS Scholars Bowl season is ready to begin! Scholars Bowl is an academic competition composed of about six team members per grade level (7th & 8th graders). Students participate in a quiz game that tests players on a wide variety of academic subjects and current events. The game is usually played with a buzzer system where players try to score points for the team by buzzing in first with the correct answer. Teams travel to various schools to compete in meets against multiple teams. Students have practices and meets 2-3 times per week during the season which occurs from December to the beginning of February. Sixth graders are welcome and act as managers as they are unable to compete with other schools. If you are interested, please email Erica Mark at [email protected] or Hannah Martin at [email protected] for more information!
Fall pictures are in!

If you ordered your student's fall pictures please come to the office and we will be happy to get them for you.

If you did not order your pictures you can get online at

Caring Hearts

Caring Hearts is a local Maize charity,  this program could not exist without the generous support of families, students and staff of USD266.

If you are interested in helping purchase a gift for Caring Hearts this year, please email Steffanie Moore at [email protected] by this Friday, Dec.4th. All items are being purchased through Amazon this year to minimize contact. Thank you!
Social Emotional Lessons

With students in the remote learning model, the Counseling/Social Emotional lessons will be pushed out via your student’s Counselor’s Corner Class in Google Classroom every Wednesday morning. Lessons may range between 15-20 minutes with material that is relevant, helpful, and relatable. Lessons may focus on topics such as time and stress management, coping and social skills, character traits, and other life situations middle schoolers face. Our goal is to educate and empower students to work through current life situations and emotions in a healthy way and to take these skills into their adult life.

MSMS Traffic Map & Information

"Crosswalks: If your child walks or rides a bicycle to school, we ask that they utilize the designated crosswalk areas which are outfitted with flashing lights. Dark mornings and high volume traffic create visibility issues. Walkers/Riders must ensure that the lights are flashing before crossing the street. Thank you for addressing this with your student."

Important Reminders

  • Remember to furnish the office with a copy of any legal documentation in regard to custody issues.
  • If your student is going to be tardy to school, they are allowed three parent excused tardies per semester, not including medical excuses with notes. Please call the school if your student is going to be late for any reason.
  • KS State Law requires notes for medical absences. Please be sure to provide a doctor's note to the front office when your child has seen the doctor, dentist, etc.
  •  If you need to pick up your child from school during school hours, please remember that we cannot pull your student out of class until you have come into the office to sign them out.
  • Just a reminder that the school district does not provide any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by your child at school. The school district makes insurance available to those who wish to purchase it on a voluntary basis. Forms may be obtained in each school office.
  • Please check your student's lunch account balance in Skyward Family Access regularly to be sure they have enough money for breakfast and/or lunch.
