MAIZE unified school district 266

February 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

On the heels of our Great Kindness Challenge week, we charge into February! The students enjoyed dress up days and focusing on the little things that make a big difference. Building character and fostering a positive mindset is an emphasis that we champion above all at MSMS!

Here are some important notes as we continue to navigate changes and updates:

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences will now take place on Wednesday, February 17th from 7:15 am – 2:45 pm. Conferences will be conducted with EnCor teachers (as in the fall) and will be scheduled with families via Sign-Up Genius. Be on the lookout for a schedule from your child’s EnCor teacher. *Friday, February 19th will now be a regular school day.
  • We are moving to full in-person learning on Monday, February 22nd. The Maize Board of Education will decide whether students will attend four or five days per week at their February 8th board meeting. Once a decision is made, we will communicate our specific learning schedule. Hybrid learning is no longer an option. Students who have chosen not to attend in-person have selected a full remote learning option.
  • There will be a change in our lunchroom accommodations. In an effort to safely host all students during lunches, half of our students will eat lunch in our small gym while the other half remain in the cafeteria. We will alternate locations for each group, weekly.
  •  All students have access to a locker. The number and combination can be located in Skyward.
  • Aimsweb scores will be shared with families soon. This will include fall and winter benchmarks. We will communicate additional information with families before these scores are available.
Thank you for your continued support of MSMS! Please let us know how we can be of assistance to you or if you have suggestions for our continued improvement. I welcome an opportunity to visit with you.

Doing what is best for kids,
Cort Haynes

MSMS Traffic Map & Information

"Crosswalks: If your child walks or rides a bicycle to school, we ask that they utilize the designated crosswalk areas which are outfitted with flashing lights. Dark mornings and high volume traffic create visibility issues. Walkers/Riders must ensure that the lights are flashing before crossing the street. Thank you for addressing this with your student."

Important Reminders

  • Remember to furnish the office with a copy of any legal documentation in regard to custody issues.
  • If your student is going to be tardy to school, they are allowed three parent excused tardies per semester, not including medical excuses with notes. Please call the school if your student is going to be late for any reason.
  • KS State Law requires notes for medical absences. Please be sure to provide a doctor's note to the front office when your child has seen the doctor, dentist, etc.
  •  If you need to pick up your child from school during school hours, please remember that we cannot pull your student out of class until you have come into the office to sign them out.
  • Just a reminder that the school district does not provide any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by your child at school. The school district makes insurance available to those who wish to purchase it on a voluntary basis. Forms may be obtained in each school office.
  • Please check your student's lunch account balance in Skyward Family Access regularly to be sure they have enough money for breakfast and/or lunch.

Thanks for your help!
