Principal's Message
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

As we move into September, we begin formally evaluating student learning. One of the ways we do that is through our AimsWeb benchmark testing for Math and Reading. Students recently completed the first round of assessments. Teachers will utilize these scores to inform their instruction and establish a baseline for student comprehension. The first 20 minutes of Math and English Language Arts courses are devoted to remediation and enrichment in these two areas. Copies of your child’s scores will be shared with you the week of our Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, September 23rd from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The conferences will be come and go as no sign up will be necessary. We will have maps available and ask that you please bring a copy of your child’s schedule. Don’t forget to visit our book fair located in the library.
We welcome your input and partnership in the education of your son/daughter. Investing in social/emotional activities during Mav Time and tracking data allow us to gain a better understanding of how to help all of our Mavericks. Your partnership and collaboration allow us to work toward helping your child experience academic and social/emotional growth.
Please visit our school website for more information regarding MSMS. A calendar of activities may also be viewed on our website by clicking on the calendar icon or visiting https://www.wichitasuburbanleague.org and selecting on MSMS.

Thank you for helping us add value,

Cort Haynes
MSMS Principal

Please help support your school library!

On September 23rd from 8:00 a.m. - 7:45 p.m., we will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. All proceeds from this event will help purchase more books for the school library.

We appreciate your support!

Thank you.
Ms. Martin
Use Google Classroom and Google Calendar!

Students will not receive an agenda this year through the district, so if parents would like for students to have one, they will need to be purchased elsewhere. Students may utilize Google Classroom and Google Calendar to organize and track assignments. Students and families can locate the student handbook on the District Website, under the "students" tab. The document is labeled, "District Student Handbook".
Donations For Math Teachers

"Math teachers are asking for math game donations to utilize in classrooms during MTSS time. The games we are looking for are Farkle, Yahtzee, Krypto, Sorry, Uno, and decks of cards. Donations can be brought to the front office or taken directly to your student's math teacher." Thank you for your help
Traffic

With limited bussing, we realize the higher volume of traffic during after school pick up. We have secured crossing guards and are utilizing our School Resource Officers for additional assistance. Please be sure that you are not picking your child up while out on the Silver Fox access road. From 2:20-2:50 pm, the far east entrance of the east parking lot is entrance only. When approaching from Tyler road, only the right lane is permitted to make a right turn into the parking lot. Once you turn into the parking lot, you may move over into the left lane of waiting vehicles. The left lane of westbound Silver Fox cars should continue straight ahead. We do intend for eastbound Silver Fox traffic to be able to turn into that far east entrance and stay in the left lane once in the parking lot. However, in order to keep traffic moving, our SRO has had to deny this left turn off of Silver Fox.
If you choose to wait in line while in the middle of the parking lot, please be mindful of parked cars that need to pull out of a parking stall. If you are in a hurry, we ask that you utilize the far north traffic lanes while in the east parking lot.

We ask for your continued patience during pick up. It is only taking 10-12 minutes for our parking lot to clear out. Please drive safely and be on the lookout for our students. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Nurses Corner

Health Screenings
Students will have hearing or vision screenings during the school year as required. 8th grade students will have screening as needed. 7th grade will have vision and hearing screenings. Students new to the district will receive both hearing and vision screenings. Parents will need to write a note to the school nurse ONLY if they do NOT want their child screened. Results will ONLY be sent home if further testing is needed. Screenings are very basic and are not meant to take the place of professional evaluations.

Immunizations for 7th graders
7th graders are required to have a Tdap booster and meningococcal (MCV4). Please send the updated record to the school nurse as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Lisa

Important Reminders

  • Remember to furnish the office with a copy of any legal documentation in regard to custody issues.
  • If your student is going to be tardy to school, they are allowed three parent excused tardies per semester, not including medical excuses with notes. Please call the school if your student is going to be late for any reason.
  • KS State Law requires notes for medical absences. Please be sure to provide a doctor's note to the front office when your child has seen the doctor, dentist, etc.
  •  If you need to pick up your child from school during school hours, please remember that we cannot pull your student out of class until you have come into the office to sign them out.
  • Just a reminder that the school district does not provide any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by your child at school. The school district makes insurance available to those who wish to purchase it on a voluntary basis. Forms may be obtained in each school office.
  • Please check your student's lunch account balance in Skyward Family Access regularly to be sure they have enough money for breakfast and/or lunch.
