May 2019
Principal's Message
It has been a wonderful school year! I would like to thank our students, staff, and parents for making my first year, one of the best.

May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week and I would like to be the first to thank all of our staff members for everything that they do. Our Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase selection is just one small way that exhibits the wonderful things that take place here at MSMS. It is a direct reflection of our wonderful staff who value students and who work tirelessly to help students succeed.

The month of May is bittersweet. We are sad to see our 8 th graders move on but are so excited to watch them excel in high school. It is also a point in the year where we wish farewell to departing staff members. Brandon Wolff who has taught Physical Education will be leaving us to take a position outside of education. Brandon has been instrumental in establishing so many positive things for our students with the Bull Rush certainly being one of those. Daniel Moran will replace Brandon for the 2019-20 school year. We wish Coach Wolff the very best!

Heather Sinko has served as our PTO President for the past five years and will be leaving us this year. MSMS has experienced so many positive things under her direction that have directly impacted our students and teachers. We are appreciative of her time and dedication to Maize South. Thank you, Heather!

Have a wonderful summer!
Cort Haynes
Principal

Important Reminders

  • Remember to furnish the office with a copy of any legal documentation in regard to custody issues.
  • If your student is going to be tardy to school, they are allowed three parent excused tardies per semester, not including medical excuses with notes. Please call the school if your student is going to be late for any reason.
  • KS State Law requires notes for medical absences. Please be sure to provide a doctor's note to the front office when your child has seen the doctor, dentist, etc.
  •  If you need to pick up your child from school during school hours, please remember that we cannot pull your student out of class until you have come into the office to sign them out.
  • Just a reminder that the school district does not provide any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by your child at school. The school district makes insurance available to those who wish to purchase it on a voluntary basis. Forms may be obtained in each school office.
  • Please check your student's lunch account balance in Skyward Family Access regularly to be sure they have enough money for breakfast and/or lunch.

World Languages Trip Spring 2020

I am thrilled to share that world languages classes are taking our next educational tour through Scotland and Ireland in 2020! These lands were once home to ancient Celtic and Gaelic tribes. We will step into the Middle Ages on Edinburgh's Royal Mile and under the towering spire of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. We also will visit Belfast and more historical and beautiful cities. We want to invite our students and families to participate in this incredible opportunity. If you have any question please e-mail me  [email protected]

MSMS PTO News

We are busy as ever!

PTO just coordinated the PTC meal and would like to thank each of you that contributed. They loved their Italian meal! The apparel table was a must stop at conferences and we had sales of $517.87!!

All Star Night was last Friday and we sold 151 wristbands and had sales of $755! Thanks for coming out and supporting your PTO!

Next Tuesday, we will have an apparel table once again at the 5th grade open house from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation week and the PTO is planning to do our annual teacher appreciation lunch. BS Sandwich Press food truck will be at the school to serve their lunch on May 9th. In addition, Whitehouse Bakery will be providing delicious cookie platters for dessert. If you get a minute, thank a teacher next week!

Our last student give back will be on Friday, May 17th. During Encor, PTO will be serving all students an ice cream sandwich. This is to thank each student for helping make MSMS PTO a continued success each year!

Join us at our last meeting of the school year next Monday, May 6th at 6:00 pm in the library!
MSMS Traffic Map & Information

"Crosswalks: If your child walks or rides a bicycle to school, we ask that they utilize the designated crosswalk areas which are outfitted with flashing lights. Dark mornings and high volume traffic create visibility issues. Walkers/Riders must ensure that the lights are flashing before crossing the street. Thank you for addressing this with your student."

PTO For Next Year

We are already thinking about the next school year! We were able to fulfill lots of teacher wish lists this past year with the money earned from fundraising events. We were also able to give back to students with special treats! PTO is hoping for another successful year next year.

Volunteers are always needed to make these events possible. If you are interested in working an event, manning the apparel table, coordinating a fundraiser, etc, then we need your help!

Our first fundraiser will be school supplies. Can’t beat having them delivered to your door and ready to go! More information to come.

Check out our website at msmspto.com or email us at [email protected]

Next meeting is May 7th at 6:30 pm in the library.
