WHY A FAN DRIVE? The Texas summer heat creates a major health risk for older adults without air conditioning or the money to run their AC units. To help seniors in the Highland Lakes stay cool, the annual Eldercare Fan Drive collects box fans and money to purchase box fans for seniors in Burnet and Llano counties and Liberty Hill in Williamson County. In recent years, more than 200 fans have been collected and distributed to qualifying residents. This annual event is a partnership between Older Adults Rural Services and KXAN-TV in Austin.
The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through an activity of their choice. Together, they use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
