Join us on Tuesday, November 14th at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center for our 7th Annual Women United Women’s Leadership Breakfast. Doors open at 8:00 am. This year’s featured speaker is Tallahassee native and FSU Law School Graduate, Shannon Bream. Shannon began her legal career working on racial discrimination and sexual harassment cases and is well versed in the struggles that many in our community face. From humble beginnings at a local ABC affiliate in Tampa, FL, she practiced law during the day while interning at night making coffee and answering phone calls. In 2007, she landed a job with Fox News at the network’s Washington, DC bureau, and has distinguished herself as their Chief Legal Correspondent in the years that followed. Bream is the host of FOX News Sunday with Shannon Bream, and has written several books, including two New York Times #1 Best Sellers. In 2018, she wrote Finding the Bright Side: The Art of Chasing What Matters, which is based on her life experience and lessons learned.

Compass Sleep Products partners with United Way to donate 100 mattresses to local victims of Hurricane Idalia

Compass Sleep Products is teaming with the United Way of the Big Bend to help local families in Madison and Taylor counties, Florida, whose homes were severely damaged when Hurricane Idalia pummeled the state’s Panhandle last month. The company is donating 100 mattresses to families in need in the region.

The United Way will distribute vouchers to the families, and they will have up to three months to redeem them for either twin, full or queen mattresses. Recipients will be able to go to the Compass factory showroom at 784 SW Greenville Hills Road in Tallahassee for the exchange.

“So many families throughout the state were impacted, but none more than our neighbors in Madison and Taylor counties. It has always been our mission to help our community and witnessing the consequences of this hurricane compelled us to take action,” says Ricky Riley, CEO and general manager of Compass Sleep Products. “We appreciate the help of the United Way in administering this program for us. It is designed to run over a three-month period because people will be rebuilding their homes at different times so we realize not everyone will need new bedding at the same time. We are ready to help them with mattresses when they are ready.”

The United Way of the Big Bend has taken a leadership role in this rural and impoverished part of Florida by gathering resources and developing focused solutions. They will be distributing the vouchers through partner organizations in the affected area.

“We are grateful to be receiving a very generous donation from Compass Sleep Products. It's ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ generosity is so appreciated. They join a very special list of Blue-Chip Florida businesses who are stepping up and helping out after this devastating hurricane,” says Berneice Cox, president and CEO of the United Way of Big Bend.
