An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Community:
We hope that this finds you well. It's been a fun week; I really enjoyed our Carnival on Saturday and am grateful for the many volunteers who helped make it a successful celebration of our community. Please click HERE for photos, and see below for more information about the silent auction and the PTO parent event this weekend.
It was great to welcome next year's Kindergarten students and their families on Tuesday night at Kindergarten registration. It is always wonderful to see and feel the enthusiasm as these students and their families begin their journey with us.
Work continues to progress at our new building. Please see below for a renovated classroom, the new main entrance, and a photo of the media center. I am so very excited for the possibilities our new building will provide for our students.
Thank you for your partnership on behalf of our amazing children!
Sincerely, Corey Maslowski

Math & Science Connection
Parents can help their child(ren) understand—and enjoy math & science! Since math is orderly, children can solve the same problem using different strategies— and still come up with the right answer. Children will see that math and science are integrated – and are part of their daily lives.

From the Music Room...
First Graders have been practicing legato and staccato (smooth and flowing/choppy and detached). We love listening to music while we move, creating motions that match what we hear. Sometimes we do our own thing, and sometimes we join with a friend!

We also just learned and reviewed the String Family of Instruments. Ask your child to tell you what new or familiar string instruments we’ve talked about and listened to. They are full of knowledge and would love to share!

Second graders are always active and learning. Students played a game where they each chose their own rhythm, then created a whole-group song with their “line buddies.” After practicing this way, they created a movement piece that was filled with ta, titi, and rest. It’s tricky doing this stuff with your body, not only your hands!

Our newest notes are half note and half rest. Ask your child to show you how we do them during music class.

Finally, our favorite new game is Te Ve Orez (Tea with Rice) , an Israeli dance. We are becoming expert at working in trios and moving through space. Watch out – you MIGHT see something like this at our spring concert in May!

From PTO... Fall 2019 Amity Host Applications Now Open!
Each year PSI welcomes eight Amity Interns from Spanish speaking countries who assist our teachers in the K-5 classrooms. These interns are either pursuing or have recently completed a college degree with an education focus, and are between the ages of 20-30 years old. Amity interns live with PSI host families one semester, allowing both the Amity and family an opportunity for greater language learning and cultural exchange.
Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for a semester. This unique and wonderful experience can benefit your entire family. Plus, it's a great way to give back to the students, staff and entire community.
Want more info? Please check out the FAQs or email us at
Ready to sign up? Go to , click Get Involved and select Amity Intern to find the Host Family application. Fill out your application today!
Thanks for considering this amazing opportunity!

The Hope Speaks Project
The HOPE Speaks Project is a way for our school and the St. Louis Park community at large to begin an important dialogue on race, racism, and the impact it has on our lives. It is an opportunity to engage in difficult buy meaningful conversations with our children, friends, family, and community. As a district, St. Louis Park has been exploring how our racial identities impact academic achievement and the learning environments we create for our students. We would like to invite our families to engage in honest, open, personal, and engaged (HOPE) conversations as a way to unpack how race operates as an often unspoken presence in our lives.

  • WHO: Parents/Families of all races & their children in 3-5th grade
  • WHAT: Honest, Open, Personal & Engaged conversations around race & racism
  • WHERE: Peter Hobart Elementary School
  • WHEN: Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:00 pm beginning April 23
