An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Welcome back from winter break! With the coming of the New Year, we are pleased to debut a NEW, more mobile-friendly ¡La Prensa! format. Because we continually strive to improve communications with our families, watch for more information in the next few months.
Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Community,
Happy New Year! I hope that your family was able to spend some extra time together during the last few weeks. I loved seeing so many excited students on Monday morning. Working with our staff members, they have refocused on routines, and I have seen a lot of student engagement this week.
We want your input!  During the next few months, there are many opportunities for you to provide input on the future of our school, as well as the district. We are adding two additional PTO meetings on Thursday, January 24th and Tuesday, February 19th . Both meetings will be at PSI from 6:30-8:00, and child care will be provided. Below are the proposed topics for the January 24th meeting.

  • Superintendent Osei will give an update on the work of the District Start/End Time Committee and will provide an opportunity for input
  • There will be a presentation on the Westwood Housing Project immediately north of our new site. There will be an opportunity for public input
  • We will have some updates on the new building
  • There will be updates on proposed changes to this year's carnival and silent auction, and how you can learn about ways to help

Please join us! Additionally, please see below under Community News, about how to give input on the playground at our new site on January 30th.
The photos below are from earlier this week. They have started construction on the addition and our new main entrance. It's going to be a wonderful learning space for our community!
I hope to see many of you at our Imagination and Inventors' Fair next Tuesday evening, January 15th. It's not too late to sign up, registration has been extended through tomorrow, January 11th. Click HERE to register electronically.
Have a great week, and keep reading!

Home & School Connection
When you think of helping with your child's education, does volunteering in classroom come to mind? That's one way to help, however, research shows that supporting your child's education at home is also very important.

Participate in a Thought exchange – A NEW Community Engagement Opportunity January 14-25 – The exchange is open for input on the School Start-End Times Study
Thought exchange allows stakeholders to share thoughts, feedback, and ideas in an open-ended, confidential, and easy-to-use digital environment. Links will be sent to parents and staff inviting participation and will also be available on the District website.
The District launched the 2019 School Start-End Times Study in November with a Project Team that includes students, parents, teachers, staff, principals, administrators and transportation consultants. The group is charged with determining the optimal schedule to meet the overall health, academic and social/developmental needs of all K-12 students. This work will include recommendations for bus routes and pick-up/drop-off times for all students and will consider the school day as well as before-school and after-school activities and childcare.
Extensive research, best practices, input from stakeholders, and the parameters of the school district budget will inform the work. Through individual study, small and large group explorations, and discussions, the team will seek consensus and make one or more recommendations to the administration and School Board by March 2019.
