An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Community:

We hope that you are having a great week! The photo to the right shows rocks from our "Kindness Rocks" project from last week. Way to go, students, for spreading kindness throughout our community!

Please join us for (the rescheduled) PSI PTO  Carnaval  on Saturday, March 16 from 6:00-8:00 pm; it is sure to be a fun time as we celebrate our community! There are some volunteer opportunities still available; please click  here . Also, note that the Silent Auction is currently online; please click  here . As a reminder, all donations and proceeds benefit our Amity Intern Program. Encourage your child to wear some PSI/Park Pride tomorrow ( every Friday is unofficially Park Pride Day). See below for more information.

Work continues to progress on our new building. See photos below of the new "Little Theater" flexible space, a newly "walled" classroom on second floor and a view of the second floor hallway looking south.

Believe it or not, we will welcome our 2019-2020 Kindergartners at Kindergarten Registration Night on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00 pm in the PSI/Central Gymnasium. I enjoy connecting with our new students and their families!

Have a wonderful week, and keep reading!

From your proud principal, Corey Maslowski

Important Reminders: Kiss & Ride Morning Drop Off
Please note: Staff MUST be present when dropping off children at the Kiss & Ride in the morning. The Kiss & Ride morning drop-off closes promptly at 8:20 am. For your child's safety, if you arrive and no staff are present, you must drive around to the front of the building to drop your child off at door #1. For building security, ALL school doors at the back of the building are locked, and students cannot safely enter the building when dropped off in the back of our building. The Kiss & Ride closes at 8:20 am because students must be inside their classroom BY 8:25 am (not just inside the building), or they are tardy per the PSI Attendance Policy.

News From the Music Room!
Flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons, kites that float over the audience, and the biggest snow globe you’ve ever seen!  Air Play  is a comic circus adventure on an epic scale about the friendship and affection between two siblings on a surreal, life-changing journey. Inspired by the paintings of Joan Miro and Wassily Kandinsky,  Air Play’s  creators Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone created the performance’s spectacular worlds in collaboration with air sculptor and inventor, Daniel Wurtzel.

On March 1 st , Second and Fifth Grade students had the opportunity to travel together to the Ordway Center for the Arts to see this amazing performance. It was a very unusual program filled with a variety of music and many visual treats. Be sure to ask your child to describe some of them and click here to enjoy the photos we caught during the trip and upon our return to school. You will see that spirits were very high !

FREE Parent Education Event: Smart Nutrition Scheduled for March 18
The PTO groups at the four elementary schools are excited to present a free parent education event called “Smart Nutrition: The Secret Gift You Give Your Child” from 7-8 pm. on Monday, March 18 in the Susan Lindgren Elementary School Gymnasium. The event is free and childcare will be provided at no cost.

Chef Marshall O’Brien will walk parents though the building blocks of establishing a nourishment plan that will allow their children to thrive and do their best in academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities, and throughout life. He will give parents strategies for how to implement these menus at home without causing family food fights or catering to a child’s taste preferences.
Heart of the Matter - Community Discussions: Food Insecurity
The Food Insecurity community Discussion was rescheduled (due to weather) to Thursday, March 21st at the  Lenox Community Center  in the cafeteria from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Food insecurity is defined as a lack of access to enough food for an active and healthy life. One in two Minnesotans experience food insecurity, and 13.8% of children in Minnesota are food insecure.

Please consider bringing a donation for  STEP. Click  HERE  for more information about this event.
