Dear Park Spanish Immersion School Community:
 
It's been an interesting week so far! Due to the inclement weather on Wednesday, we have rescheduled our PTO Drama Club performances of  "The Three Little Pigs" ( "Los 3 Cerditos" )  for the student body to Friday, again at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm. We will also have evening performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm in the PSI gymnasium. I can't wait to see the end product of the students' dedication and hard work! Thanks to Sra. Wieber and the many volunteers who have made this possible for our students.
 
This morning, our fourth grade students are traveling to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This afternoon, our fourth and fifth graders will participate in a "Reading is Powerful" assembly highlighting Roberto Clemente .
 
At the PTO meeting on Tuesday evening, Superintendent Osei presented on the work of the  District Start-End Time Committee , and there were opportunities for feedback and questions. Please click HERE to learn more. María Reyes and Peter Gerdts, District  Equity Coaches , also presented on the work that has been happening with our teachers and staff members, as we strive for racially conscious and equitable classrooms and schools. Information about the HOPE Project was also shared. See below for more details. It was a good night of learning.

Piedras Positivas
Hello, parents! The third grade student leadership representatives are planning a school wide project to spread kindness. Each student will get the opportunity to decorate a rock with a positive Spanish word on it. When they take it home they can hide it or gift it to spread kindness to someone and make them happy. 

We will need some supplies for this project. If you are willing to donate we would appreciate the help!  Here is a link to the supplies we will need including, modge podge, paint pens, foam brushes, and money for rocks.

Math & Science Connection - Intermediate Edition
Since math is orderly, children can solve the same problem using different strategies— and still come up with the right answer. Children will see that math and science are integrated – and are part of their daily lives.

2019 Spring Fundraiser News
Coming soon, families will be receiving a save the date for some important events in March along with a request for donations to the PTO. This backpack envelope will come home with students next week. ANY dollar amount that each family can contribute is greatly appreciated!
 
The spring fundraiser helps raise money for the PTO so that we can continue to support our Amity Intern Program. The Amity Interns support student learning alongside PSI staff and the program is funded entirely by PSI PTO.
 
In previous years, Leer-a-tón, Carnival and Silent Auction have been our primary source for fundraising for PSI's Parent Teacher Organization. We are so grateful for our community of volunteers and the many ways in which families have made these events a success year after year. This year, our hope is to simplify Carnival and focus on community building in order to reduce some of the burdens of planning and carrying out details for this event.

Please submit your Box Tops before February 28th for the spring mail-in deadline.
 
Each Box Top is worth $.10, which goes directly to PSI. Box Tops can really add up. In the fall, we raised $477.50 for PSI just with Box Tops. Bring them to the PSI office today!

District Announces Four Options for New Start-End Times; Requests Feedback From Stakeholders
I n alignment with its Strategic Plan, St. Louis Park Public Schools is in process to complete a School Start-End Times Study during the fall and winter of 2018-19. The purpose of the study is to determine the optimal schedule to meet the overall health, academic, and social/developmental needs of all K-12 students.

A Project Team, made up of students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and transportation consultants have met three times since November and have developed four options for stakeholders to consider.

During the month of February, District leaders will be gathering feedback from stakeholders regarding the four options. The Project team will then meet again in March and put forth a recommendation for the School Board to consider at their two regularly scheduled March meetings.

Mark You Calendar... HOPE Speaks Project
Tuesdays: April 16 through May 28th
6:30 to 8:00 pm
The HOPE Speaks Project is a way for our schools and the St. Louis Park community at large to begin an important dialogue on race, racism, and the impact it has on our lives.  It is an opportunity to engage in difficult but meaningful conversations with our children, friends, family, and community. As a district, St. Louis Park has been exploring how our racial identities impact academic achievement and the learning environments we create for our students. We would like to invite our families to engage in  honest, open, personal,  and engaged  (HOPE) conversations as a way to unpack how race operates as an often unspoken presence in our lives.
