Feeding America is the national umbrella for our food bank network; they work to secure food banks with national and governmental food donations. They offer education, training, resources and grant opportunities to those in their network. A large part of their work is in advocacy, acting as educators and advocates to our legislators in Washington.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is our affiliate and is a member of the Feeding America network. A food bank acts primarily as a warehouse distribution hub for nonprofit feeding organizations. Partner Agencies, such as yours, have access to their inventory and if they are also an enabled agency, has access to food directly from a local retail store participating in the Retail Enablement Program. ACFB also offers USDA commodities and GNAP products through their inventory as well.
The Georgia Mountain Food Bank is a Partner Distribution Organization for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. What does that mean? ACFB chose to assign 5 of their counties to GMFB, Hall, Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin, and Union Counties to oversee. GMFB handles all areas of compliance, training, reporting, resources, and supports their Partner Agencies just as any Food Bank would.
You, our Partner Agencies are the boots on the ground! You work directly with your neighbors that need help with food. You stock your shelves with donations, and by partnering with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, and gain access to ACFB inventory as well. Some of you pick up food directly from a retail store assigned to you as part of the Retail Enablement Program. All of this is a finely fitted system making up a perfect partnership!
