A little over a month ago, many residents in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties were impacted by significant flooding. Some experienced a little dampness in the basement and for others entire basements or living spaces were flooded, creating structural damage and ruining furnaces, hot water heaters and washer/dryers. Some had family, friends and neighbors who helped remove debris while others have had no help whatsoever and are unsure how to move forward. Some are home owners and some are renters. All are children of God and are our neighbors. We continue to discover ways to assist with flood recovery. What might you do to be neighborly? Check the list below to see how you can help. The Disaster Preparedness and Response Task Force is helping connect you to local needs. Contact Marilyn Stone at mmstone52@att.net.
Urgent Volunteer Needs:
Removal of debris, drywall/flooring and/or help with mold remediation (individuals or teams): Volunteers would receive training and work with an experienced team lead. The Presbytery is partnering with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
Alice Franks-Gray, Wisconsin UMCOR Coordinator, reports of the desperate need for additional volunteers to help with flood relief. Multi-Area Resource Center (MARC) events held last week have determined those in greatest need (about 175 cases). Many have simple requests, but have challenges limiting their ability to do even the simplest things without an assist. Getting additional volunteer teams into homes will help speed up recovery. Please email UMCOR at ert@wisconsinumc.org if you are able to help. Thank you!
Staff Donations Warehouse Site:
Volunteers are needed to staff the County Donations Warehouse which is available for large, palletized donations and storage of rebuild supplies through recovery efforts. Volunteers can take a shift on an ongoing basis (short or long term) and would need skills to:
- Load and unload pallets from trucks (Loading dock and Pallet Jack on site)
- Track inventory
- Set up pick-up and delivery times
Serve on Long Term Recovery Team:
What is a long-term recovery team? The team consists of representatives from a group of community organizations (non-profits, faith-based groups, government agencies, and businesses) that coordinate resources and efforts to help individuals and families with the greatest need rebuild and recover from disasters over a period of months or years. It ensures that there is a work partner who can coordinate the rebuilding work to be done, oversee the work being done by volunteer work teams, and ensures there are tools and materials available to do the work.
Assemble Clean-up Buckets:
Fill clean-up buckets for use locally and also to help refill the supply (see Emergency Bucket list)

Do you have the skills and willingness to do any of the following? These needs arise with short notice, so it’s helpful to know volunteers to contact to check on availability when needed.
_____ Provide emotional and spiritual care support
_____ Provide lunch/dinner for volunteer work teams
_____ Make phone calls to update recovery needs
_____ Other (list what skills you have to offer)
