The Governor’s Export Achievement Awards began in 1981 to recognize companies that have contributed to Wisconsin’s exporting strength by achieving extraordinary results in international markets and elevating Wisconsin’s competitiveness in the global economy.

The awards serve a dual purpose: to recognize companies’ good work and to highlight examples of best practices in export growth so other Wisconsin companies can learn and apply similar tactics.

Any Wisconsin company or organization successfully engaging in, or assisting in the export of, products or services produced in Wisconsin is eligible to apply. Nominations can be made by an employee of the company or organization, or by an outside person familiar with the company or organization.

This year a total of three Governor’s Export Achievement Awards will be presented to successful Wisconsin exporters of products or services as well as exporters of agricultural/food products. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 21 and the awards ceremony will take place on Oct. 26, 2022.
Main Street Bounceback Grant
Gov. Tony Evers has announced that an additional $25 million will be invested into the Main Street Bounceback Grant Program.
The program has already helped more than 5,200 small businesses and nonprofits in all 72 counties in Wisconsin. This additional investment will enable 2,500 more small businesses and nonprofits to move or expand into vacant commercial spaces across the state. The deadline to apply for a Main Street Bounceback Grant has been extended to December 31, 2022. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all the funds are disbursed.
Grant funds are available as part of the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) and distributed by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) regional partners. Businesses must apply through the partner organization for the region in which they are located. The program is open to new or existing businesses opening a new location or expanding operations in a vacant commercial property where the lease commences, or sales contract closes, on or after January 1, 2021 and on or before December 31, 2022.
Additional information about the Main Street Bounce Back Grants is available here: https://wedc.org/programs-and-resources/mainstreet-bounceback-grants/.
Workforce Innovation Grants
The first round of Workforce Innovation Grants were announced in December 2021 when the governor announced 12 regional projects would receive up to $59.5 million in grants. Last summer, Gov. Evers announced a groundbreaking $130 million investment in workforce solutions across the state. The second round of Workforce Innovation Grants brings that total investment to more than $150 million, including:
  • More than $128 million for the Workforce Innovation Grant Program to encourage regions and communities to develop leading-edge, long-term solutions to the workforce challenges the state faces in the wake of COVID-19;
  • $20 million toward the Worker Advancement Initiative, which offers subsidized employment and skills training opportunities with local employers to unemployed individuals; and
  • $10 million for a Worker Connection Program, which provides workforce career coaches who will connect with individuals attempting to reengage in the workforce post-pandemic.
A full list of Workforce Innovation grantees for round two of the program were recently announced here. The goal of the Workforce Innovation Grant program is to help the regions of Wisconsin solve their most pressing workforce challenges by financially supporting collaborative, sustainable and innovative pandemic-recovery plans developed by regional organizations.
Additional program information is available here: https://wedc.org/programs-and-resources/workforce-innovation-grant/
