Dear friends and family,
I have been given an amazing opportunity to help people who are going through a similar cancer treatment to what I survived almost a decade ago.
For the first year in the greater Madison area, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has launched a campaign called Students of the Year. This is a seven week long fundraising challenge given to high school or college level students to see how much they can raise to help support this great organization. I am very excited to tell you that I will be leading the team titled ¨Finish the Fight.¨
I am writing today to ask for your support in LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and help assist patients and families as they fight to endure the treatment of these terrible diseases. From January 26 to March 14 our teams will be raising money that will go directly to LLS in support of its mission. Our team goal is to raise $25,000!
I am a sophomore in high school, and by taking part in this fundraising event, my goal is that one day there can be a cure for cancer. Almost ten years ago, I was diagnosed with Leukemia, so I experienced what most Leukemia and Lymphoma patients have to go through - multiple years of various chemotherapy, radiation, and surgical treatments. I am alive today because of the research and treatments that were funded by organizations such as LLS. I am very motivated to help others in the continuous search for a cure.
You may be surprised to learn that LLS funded 15 of the 18 FDA approved treatments in 2017. The blood cancer research LLS funds leads to treatment advances for other cancers and serious diseases, and LLS funded more than 60% of those therapies. LLS also supported 227 research grants that amounted to a whopping $211 million multi-year commitment in 2017. To date, LLS has invested more than $1.2 billion in research funding almost all of today’s most promising advances. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is doing the right things with the money they raise and receive, and I am very honored to be associated with such a great organization.
This is where you come in. I am asking for your thoughtful consideration in support of my mission to fight the battle against blood cancers by contributing to my campaign. I am asking for your donation to support an organization that helped save my life.

Thank you for your consideration!
