Greeting friends,
First of all, we would like to thank you for your continued support. We really can't do what we do without you.
Since our last newsletter, we have welcomed AWAHIH interns and volunteers Jill Olmo and Brooke McKinney to our team of Artists-in-Residence. We are also delighted to have Maddie Firestone back with us taking on the role of lead artist at Wolfson's. We are also delight to welcome UNF interns Nina Avis and Meredith Sullivan to our talented team of volunteers.
Goodbye's are never easy but we said farewell to Cheryl, Laura, and Korey, three of our talented Artists-in-residence. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors, and we hope to see them again soon. There is always space in our hearts for these amazing individuals who brought so much joy and talent to the kids and families they served.
Before we jump into this packed newsletter, we invite you to check out our new blog which we launched on our website
here!
Happy Spring to each and every one of you from the Art with a Heart in Healthcare Team!

New Patient Exhibition Opening at MOCA Jacksonville Sunday, August 5th
|
We are so excited about our latest patient exhibit, “A World of Their Own,” opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville on Sunday, August 5th. For this year's exhibition, the artists started with a question, “If you could create your own world… what would it look like?” Painted on Mache and canvas, patients explored their personalities, stories, and identities in a three-dimensional form.

A special family celebrates their son's life by giving back
It takes a team to pull off what Shannel Mett does in honor of her son, Kaylum. Each year the Mett family celebrate Kaylum’s life by giving back. This February, with the help of friends Diane and Tony Fiscarelli and Trent Maddox, owner of Amelia Rental and Management Services where Shannel works, the family collected money to buy art supplies for Art with a Heart in Healthcare.

"Art to Go"
from Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra
|
“Art to Go” bags are filled with art supplies that children can use to express their creativity while in the hospital setting and beyond. Many of the people we serve have their first art experience with Art with Heart in Healthcare. We are so grateful for Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra for creating this opportunity for “Art to Go” for so many children.

Learning and Growing at the Mayo Clinic
|
In December of last year, we formed a new partnership with the Mayo Clinic and its Humanities in Medicine department to provide art at the bedside. A service was launched which allows patients to call and request a visit from an artist. Art with a Heart in Healthcare was called in to help fulfill these requests along with current volunteer art program at the Jacksonville Campus.

Art across the airwaves at Wolfson Children's Hospital
|
We are presenting in the media center on a regular basis these days. Our Artists- in- Residence have been coming up with the most awesome programs to beam across the airwaves direct to the kids. This is especially wonderful as everyone can participate from the comfort of their room or tune in later as the program repeats.
We have also been supporting the Spiritual Care Team at Wolfson's by providing special projects for Christmas, Hanukah, and Easter services with the children and their families.

Every mile brought a smile at the Wolfson Children's Challenge
|
Every mile brought a smile and Art with a Heart in Healthcare was trackside cheering the runners on while providing art time for many of 55 children and their families who were invited to share their inspiring stories. The Wolfson Children’s Challenge is an annual event to raise the necessary funds to make sure no child is ever turned away from Wolfson Children's Hospital because of an inability to pay.

Major Funding cuts for Arts organizations in Florida
|
|
|
|
Some of you may be aware that Florida's recently approved budget has drastically reduced and eliminated funding for many arts organizations in the State. As a non profit Art with a Heart in Healthcare relies on much of it’s funding from grants and sponsorships.
