"Whatever may happen, you must not fret but rise above it and remain in peace. No harm can befall you if God does not will it; and if he permits it, it will be for a good end since, to those who serve Him, all things turn out for the best."

St. Vincent de Paul safety face masks are now available. They offer protection and style from airborne particulates and they are comfortable and breathable to wear. The masks are made of 100% microfiber polyester, so it is light weight and cool even in the summertime. When your mask is not needed, simply pull it down off your face and let it rest easily around your neck until you are ready to use it again.

Ozanam Orientation Postponed!
|
|
The Ozanam Orientation scheduled for May 23, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kyle has been postponed. We're working to set a new date in June. More details are coming soon.
Ozanam Orientations are designed to set up our new Vincentians for success and re-energize those Vincentians who have already served. During the Oznanam Orientation, Diocesan Council and conference leaders help prepare volunteers by offering insight into the Society's history and legacy, home visits, and Vincentian spirituality.
All new Vincentians are asked to attend an Ozanam Orientation within their first year in ministry; current Vincentians should attend an Ozanam refresher every 3-5 years.

Gospel: (Luke 24:13-35)
That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had happened. And while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them. …and then Jesus said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the Prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with the Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. …They urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” …While he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened Scriptures to us?
Vincentian Reflection
The disciples had given up hope, they were confused and downcast. But they still had a spark within them and their hearts burned as they once again heard the Scriptures. But they could not see, could not understand. It was only their hospitality, “Stay with us”, in the spaciousness of their reaching out to the Stranger and offering what they could give that their eyes were opened. Our daily reaching out to our neighbor is our daily walk with the risen Christ; we recognize him in others.
(Living Liturgy, p.126)
When have you found “your hearts burning within you” as you served the poor with the hospitality and “honor” in the spirit of Frederic?

National Gazette Questions and Answers
Q: Our Conference has been given collections and the poor box funds for many years. Our treasurer has a key for the poor box and empties it on a regular basis. Our pastor told us that, by order from the diocese, the parish must count the funds in collections and the poor box before giving the funds to SVdP. We feel like there is a lack of trust and are not sure what to make of this change.
A: This is a common practice in many parts of the country. The parish is held responsible for all collections of funds. The parish provides the counters, records the collections and then turns the funds over to the Society. This is an accountability process that works well. As long as there is a good working relationship between the pastor/parish and the Conference, there should be no concern in this matter.
Preguntas y Respuestas de la
Oficina Nacional
