"Come now, let us engage ourselves with renewed love to serve the poor, and let us even seek out the poorest and most abandoned of all."
-St. Vincent de Paul

Join us on May 5, 2020 for #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity. It's an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The Society has seen an increase in number of people who need financial and food assistance over the past weeks. In response, the food pantry has continued to operate on Saturdays and emergency food kits are available at Client Services Tuesday - Friday. Vincentians are conducting phone interviews instead of home visits to prevent homelessness and to ensure people have utilities during this time of crisis. Your gift to the Society will make a difference in many lives in Central Texas. To donate visit www.ssvdp.org.
Thank you for your prayers and your support!

Ozanam Orientation Postponed!
|
|
The Ozanam Orientation scheduled for May 23, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kyle has been postponed. We're working to set a new date in June. More details are coming soon.
Ozanam Orientations are designed to set up our new Vincentians for success and re-energize those Vincentians who have already served. During the Oznanam Orientation, Diocesan Council and conference leaders help prepare volunteers by offering insight into the Society's history and legacy, home visits, and Vincentian spirituality.
All new Vincentians are asked to attend an Ozanam Orientation within their first year in ministry; current Vincentians should attend an Ozanam refresher every 3-5 years.

Gospel: (John 10: 1-10)
Jesus said:
“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber. But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.”…”Amen, amen I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep… whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come and go out and find pasture. I came so that they may have life and have it more abundantly.”
Vincentian Meditation:
“Surely, the great secret of the spiritual life is to abandon all we love to him by abandoning ourselves to all God wishes in perfect confidence that all will be for the best… He will take the place of father and mother for you. He will be your consolation, your virtue, and in the end the recompense of your love.”-St. Vincent de Paul.
(McKenna, Praying with Vincent, p. 30)
When have we “abandoned ourselves to God in perfect confidence”, and found that Jesus is truly our Shepherd?

National Gazette Questions and Answers
Q: During this Coronavirus pandemic we are not doing any Home Visits with our clients, how do we keep track of our phone interviews? Where should we enter the hours we spend and the number of people we help over the phone, sometimes it is a referral, counseling or sometimes we are paying a bill?
A: Phone interviews in place of Home Visits are now being done across the country due to the Coronavirus and should be reported in the same manner as you would a Home Visit, except phone interviews should be entered under Other In-Person Visits on the Conference annual report.
