What We Learned Last Sunday

We read from Mark 10:46-52 where we met a guy named Bartimaeus (the older kids like to call him Blind Bart). Bart was blind and he had heard about Jesus’ ability to heal people. Many people in a crowd told Bart to forget about seeing Jesus, but he was confident and persistent in his faith and didn’t give up in getting to see Jesus. Bart is a great example to us in how we too can be persistent and confident in our faith.

Family Conversation Starters to keep the dialogue going:

  • What does it mean to you to be confident? What are you most confident about?
  • What other words do we use for someone who acts boldly?
  • Jesus’ big love works through the love of others. When have you been surprised by Jesus’ big love?
  • Tell about a time when you needed Jesus to help you.

Here’s a great prayer you can use as a family this week:

Thank you, God, for the gift of faith. Keep

calling us to boldy share and confidently

act like Bartimaeus. Help us to know deeply

your love for us and the world. In Jesus’

name we pray. AMEN.

Kiddos participate and experience by staying in the service this week. They are also welcome to take on a leadership role in the worship service such as serving communion, being an acolyte,

singing in the children’s choir or leading a reading/prayer. Reach out to Mayme anytime if you have a kiddo who’d like to lead!

Trunk or Treat Highlights!

Trunk or Treat was a HUGE hit! Click HERE to see all the fun we had!

Thank you to all our volunteers who decorated trunks, handed out candy, made popcorn and hot cocoa, painted pumpkins, roasted S'mores with the kids, and provided amazing community hospitality to our guests!

Joyful Noise Performs this Sunday!

A reminder that your kids will be singing on Sunday, November 3 for our All Saints service! They will sing with the sanctuary choir and with Hennepin Chime. Please arrive in the sanctuary at 9:20am so we can rehearse all of these groups together.

Many of you have copies of the music at home. You can listen and follow along here: CGA1740 Great God, Our Creator (This video has scrolling music, so if you don't have a copy, you can see it here, too.)

Please listen and work on stanzas 1 and 4. The kids will sing stanza 1. The sanctuary choir will sing stanzas 2 and 3. The congregation and kids will join on stanza 4.

Reminder, we will NOT have Joyful Noise rehearsal after worship this week.

Community Meals is a Great Family Volunteer Experience!

Sunday, November 3 • Koinonia Hall • 4-6pm

Community Meals is Hennepin Avenue UMC’s hospitality and feeding ministry. For over 30 years, we’ve been part of a downtown church consortium committed to providing a hot meal on Sunday evenings to low-income and homeless people on the 1st and 5th Sundays of the month.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities find fun, fulfilling work at Community Meals. It’s a true ministry of joy and welcome. As a parent you can be a role model for your kids. It’s a great way to volunteer with a group of friends or meet a whole new group of terrific people. You don’t need to be a church member to volunteer. All are welcome. You can work one meal a year or more. The time commitment is a minimum of 2 hours per meal. To volunteer email Kristy Barnes at kbarnes1127@gmail.com.
